Do I have cornering lights?
Ok - this sounds like it should be obvious, however I'm not sure!
My new 2012 HSE seems to have bulbs where I think the cornering lights should be (photo below) but they don't seem to come on. I've tested with the ignition and headlights on, with both indicators.
Is there any way to check for certain?
Cheers,
Ade

The cornering lights are lights that actually turn left and right as you turn the wheel whilst moving. They are not like the cheaper versions that turn a light on as you turn a corner. Go for a drive in the dark and see if they move as you turn the wheel.

Thanks!
I'm a bit confused though. I've definitely not got the lights that move when you steer (we have them on our Mondeo so pretty familiar with them) but there's a thread here that mentions cornering lights being in the bottom corners of the light units. I definitely have bulbs there...

Have you tried to see if the cornering lights come on when you are moving in the dark? I can't remember whether you have to be moving or not for them to work but if it's dark enough you will be able to see the extra light come on whichever way you are turning the wheel. I think you also have to be under 30mph.Cheers Ian

Also if you register with Topix http://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/i18n/index you can view the spec sheet of the car and this will say if it has cornering lamps fitted or not, here's a copy of the spec sheet from one of my old D4's

Thanks Ian. I didn't know about Topix; just registered and it seems I do have cornering lights. 😀 Now I need to work out if they work (certainly can't see any evidence of that). Maybe both bulbs are blown...
Topix also shows adaptive xenons; is that the ones that should swivel when the steering wheel is turned?
Here's the section from Topix for my car:

Yes, adaptive xenons swivel slightly when turning. They’re also called AFS (Adaptive Front-lighting System) sometimes.

Ade,
to check they are working you need the car in Drive, can do this with handbrake on but suggest having the car pointing up hill
When you indicate with the wheel turned n degrees the cornering light will illuminate

Certainly on my D4 the label on the lamp says ‘afs’ 👍

Thanks all. Not been able to check this evening but I'll see what I can find after work tomorrow.

OK. My lamp units also say AFS Cornering, so looks like I should have the adaptive xenons with cornering lights.
Have tried it stationary, in drive, turning the wheel to full lock both ways (with and without the indicator on) but can't see either cornering bulb light up and neither do I see the headlamp pattern move.
Have checked fuses 49 and 50 for the AFS and both are fine.
Could anyone please confirm if this should all work when stationary, or do I need to be moving? Though I've not seen and change in beam pattern or any sign of cornering lights when driving (not done much night driving in it yet, mind!)
Cheers,
Ade

On a D3 they work with the lights on and indicator with just ignition, no need to be moving or engine running. Just tried it
It may be different on a D4IID PRO

Obvious but have you checked the bulbs as it should work with the tests you are doing.

I've not yet checked the cornering bulbs - that's my next step (probably after the b/h weekend). Can't see what fuse they're on, unfortunately.
As for the adaptive headlights, I should have checked the manual; that says they are disabled when stationary, so looks like I'll need to test that while driving.
Could be a config issue, I guess. I bought a genuine Landrover warranty with the car so can get it checked if necessary. It's just that I think they charge a diagnostic fee if there's no fault, so want to be sure, first!

Well, the fix was simply to replace the cornering bulbs (H8 type). Both had blown and presumably the previous owner didn't notice / worry). As both weren't working, I originally assumed something more nefarious!
If anyone needs to check theirs, to get them on it seems you need the engine running, in drive, with the headlights on. My MY12 ones then come on with either the indicators or when the steering wheel is turned 'enough'.
