Covering up a parking sensor

hi,

I need to cover a parking sensor so that the car stil "sees" it and think it's there but so that it doesn't actually work. This is because my A bar gets in the way of the sensor so it goes off continuously.

I have tried covering it with a couple of layers of tape as someone suggested but that doesn't work, it sees the tape and goes off continuously. Someone suggested BluTac anyone know if this works? Any other ideas.

I currently have the bumper off, lights out etc. so any help urgently appreciated.

Is it a LR soft A-bar?
Mine had two holes blanked off with plastic things that when removed allowed the parking sensors to be re-fitted into the A-bar _ see pic

Taz, it is a LR one, the winch version, but because it is without the correct fitting kit I've had to use the holes to fit it. Don't ask.....

So I am having two blanked off sensors behind the bumper that will be connected into the system. If they are not connected the system just gives an error so they need to be connected but blanked off so that they do not detect anything.

It needs to be something soft as you say, bluetac might work? I know LR turn off the front sensors when they fit the winch to support vehicles so ideally you need someone with a knobbox to turn of with software. Mine is the same on the back as they 'see' my towbar drop plate... Be good to try and re-position though on the front so you can still use them?

Stu, behind the A Bar you will see the recesses where the sensors poke through, you just need to cut the hole carefully. I understand you have no sensor carrier that comes with the fitting kit, but you can bond them in.

The 2 sensors needed to be relocated have longer cables that is tied up behind the bumper skin.

The BluTac didn't do it - still goes off continuously. Any other ideas? Would sticking a sensor in a sponge work? How soft does it need to be? Would it see past the sponge? Any other materials that anyone can suggest or has used?

I really want to get it sorted tonight as the car is in bits and I don't want to put it all back together, knowing I'll have to take it apart again.

Thanks again.

Winch version doesn't have the lower crossbar, not designed to be used with parking sensors

Stu, blue tac or something similar should work. Had black tac and a bit of gaffer tape on two of my rear ones for a couple of years now with no problems

thanks for all the suggestions. I know the winch vs isn't meant to have sensors, I'm just trying to keep the two outters ones working and the only way to do that seems to be to fool the middle two into think there is nothing there.

sorry but the very nature of the sensor would imply that anything in front would set it off,

I've played many a practical joke involving parking sensors and electrical tape.... Whistle

I might be talking crap here but could you not cut the two redundant sensors out of the loom and join wires up?

A friend has a G4 and his have been disconnected but he wants the two outers reconnected so I am watching this with interest.

Si, I agree, I just don't know what material is best to absob the signal so it doesn't get an echo.

Black tac (mastic tape) definitely works, got any other sort of mastic around the house you could try?
