I would get the switch pack and fit it .. There have been a few on here that have done it and found out it works without any thing else needed. If worst comes to worst you can then get it enabled .. But I'm under the impression all your enabling is the light on the dash .. I think the cruise control still works without the indicated lightG4 Gone ...but not forgotten
Agree with Wiggs - a few have found that fiiting the switches works with no enabling required however if that does not work then it is an enable to get the system to working and the dash lights illuminating. Tried this approach on mine (05MY) and nothing worked until TFC worked his magic - several others have too!!!
I've got the D3 Base model on an 06 plate which came with the "base" steering wheel ie horn units only. Was then lucky enough to pick up an as-new steering wheel c/w cruise and radio fittings ( and the phone control fitting which I don't want ) on Fleabay. Rather than go to the bother of swopping the two wheels over I just swopped the cruise and radio fittings without the phone switches. Radio worked straight away but not the cruise. TFC then gave me advice on getting it enabled locally with Autologic which regrettably the chap who tried it couldn't manage. He did however tell me I had a "fault" code which TFC kindly informs me actually needs cleared to allow the cruise to "enable". So, I'll be back into my "chap" soon with the info from TFC to retry the "enable". For what its worth the mechanical bit of swopping/fitting the bits was relatively easy once I tracked down info on the site re the airbag removal technique.

back on the topic again...
I understand that all the connections are already in place even if you have a D3 model without cruise control (like me). Is it just a matter of changing the wheel to get cruise control or even just the part of the wheel that holds the buttons for it with no further mods on the car?
Thanks,
