My reading of the regs was that IF main-beam headlamps are a pair, they must be a matched pair.
There doesn't seem to be any stipulation or limit on the number of extra main-beam lamps can be fitted.Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Very cool installation, but use it on road at your peril.
The light bar runs through the centre of the vehicle and was fitted by my normal mechanic who also works at my local MOT centre, further, my previous D3 had a similar array and passed two MOT's in my ownership.

I never said I was only using it off road. I answered the question "why did you have it fitted" with the answer "for off road use principally", in that, I would not have bothered to have it fitted had this vehicle been a road use only vehicle. For the same reasons, I will have spots added to the rear also. Been in plenty of situations where the extra light is useful.
As to road use, when has it ever been dark and you felt you had too much light? Point being, why would you not use them on the road if fitted?D3 07 SE - still going strong

Anyway, regardless of whether you have one fitted for on road, off road, or the use of both and howsoever you have it wired in...
THIS particular ebay item proved to be a perfect snug fit and works perfectly for the use I intended. It's debatable whether it looks nice and to me that is an irrelevance anyway - it is there to meet a practical need.
For the record, I did consider a variety of twin spot solutions but none did the job better for me than this.
EDIT to add: Note, it is curved and therefore throws the light wide - invaluable on a tricky and tight green lane D3 07 SE - still going strong

I have a similar one fitted for a couple of years now - however I have it switched so that I can have it come with the high beams or not.
Reason is it is a flood light rather than a proper spot. Now stick with me!
When driving on back roads 20 mph to 40 mph or off road it is great and really lights up everything near giving a great view
HOWEVER if you are on a faster section of road they are dangerous because they throw too much light around and your eyes are overwhelmed from the near field. The far field is not well enough lit, that is where you need proper spots.
In short, these are great if you want flood lights, but not spot lights. See everything near at night, but not better for seeing far down the road.
Wouldn't get rid of mine though, but the switchable is the best way to go.

I know, it is pretty much the same as what I have. Great pieces of kit but the flood from the flood light section is so strong that optically it washes out the benefit of the spots once you are moving at any pace.
I am not trying to knock them, I have one myself, but I do recommend that when installing, use the switch so that it does not need to come on with the high beams all the time. That way, you have the best of both worlds.

Many of you are probably not aware that this is not an “every day car”. Unless we are on an expedition or laning it comes out once a week at the most. To tick it over👍
