Why Have a Customer Services Dept?

I have a TDV6 5 seat wth TR and Climate control. I purchased the car after it had been built, so it did not have Cruise Control. No problem, I thought, just like my previous TD5s just have it retro fitted by the dealer. I have the fitted the steering wheel controls, all the wiring is there (also the radio controls, which work).
The dealer was unable to activate the cruise. I decided to call customer services, "the wiring is different so it has to be factory fitted" I was told.
I'm probably a bit of a pain in the ar** but I would like a fuller acurate explanation, so I wrote a letter asking for a technical response. After 10 days I received a call from my Dealer. LR had called him asking HIM to "sort it out". My dealer is great but they are as much in dark as I am. They say my contract is with Dealer so all problems have to go through them..........AAAAAAAAARRRGGGH.
Is it me or is this not proper CUSTOMER SERVICE?

Ha, you must be a new Land Rover owner. This is par for the course, at least here in the states.

We waited over 8 months for a part for our Freelander...

This is my 9th Discovery. I put it down to FORD regime. Always had good support when required from LR IN THE PAST.

Surprising. Things must be much better over there in the UK! Here, Land Rover "Customer Service" has been a joke since the department was created...
