D3 2.7 Auto Front Differential

Hi looking for any advice, I have just removed the auto gearbox to get it and the torque converter overhauled (rev counter fluctuating). At the same time checked the input shafts into the differentials, the rear has no rotational slack, whereas the front has a lot of slack when alternating the rotation.

Can someone let me know if this is normal on the front diff, before I get carried away and pull it out/replace?

It's difficult to tell, as you are feeling the slack in the front driveshafts as well. If you drain the oil, you'll soon see if the diff is in trouble or not. I'm doing a front diff on mine at the moment.

There are loads of diff related threads, here is a link to my current thread. Thumbs Up

Any doubt has gone, nearly 10mm of metallic debris on the plug and about 50% quanitity of oil.

That probably explains it. If you are looking for a new diff, don't forget the ratios are different for auto/manual/V8. Thumbs Up
