hello pdip and wwelcome aboard!
I'll be hunting out an extended warranty soon. As I've said eleswhere, I reckon I'll keep the D3 for ten years and 500,000km. Have a nice day!

Great thread!
So, I have had my pre-owned D3 S Auto TDV6 now for about 8 weeks and I think it is fantastic, on and off road, loaded with the tribe or with just me in it.
Its a Jan 05 "54" so its an early model. its done 63,000 miles and has just under 18 months warrenty left (Jan 08). I am defo not changing it before the MOT kicks in - and i am defo going to be asking LR for an extended warranty option -
I do about 20k miles a year, I used to do nearer 40k. Its just not worth running any quality modern car, LR or otherwise, without a warranty. 1 Hit and it is self financing.

My 05 LR3 has been in service about 20 times now for everything in the book. I still love the vehicle but one thing is sure, it's gone after the warranty expires!

Had mine for just under 2 years, apart from a whinning transfer box [replaced under warranty] and a Tailgate which wouldn't open I've had no problem and this after 61k miles!! It still drives and looks as good as new [sorry, I was sounding a bit like *Arfur Daley there]. I certainly plan to keep mine for many years, after all what would I want to change it for...another D3 at £41k when I've already got one. Without the finance of a new one I should expect and be able to pay and afford the odd heafty bill.
Sell My Disco...No Way Hoseay....I'd rather get rid of 'her indoors' [*oh there I go again]!!! 🏴

Made a "test" quote online today with Warranty Direct, for a D3 TDV6 base model and repairable by a franchised dealer rather than independent.
Request was for an October 2004 model, commencing after manufacturers 3-year warranty expired.
Was quoted around £750 which I have a feeling is where Landrover is going to come in as well...
So, just over £60 a month looks well worth it for peace of mind when all those miles of air suspension plumbing and great chunks of ironmongery underneath start playing up.
Who will be more sympathetic to claims, and not just dismiss them as fair wear and tear, I wonder? Landrover, trying to keep customer loyalty, or an independent????????????
Anyone had experience with warranty on TD5s, RR or Freelanders?

Ronp, your logic makes sense to me. I have been wrestling with the idea of changing next November (3 years old). Mine too is doing 30k per year.
The cost to change next year would I reckon be at least £30k to get another HSE.
If I were to keep it to 5 years, the miles would be 150k. I seriously doubt it would cost anywhere near £30k in repairs to keep it going.
The only questions to answer are, do I want a new car anyway? and will it get unreliable and therefore undependable?

It’s scary what you’re all saying here. If it’s so, I think I’ll cancel the order I made last week.
I used to drive Mitsubishi before 12 years with no issue just maintenance. By the way, my Mitsubishi was less expensive than Disco3… Discovery 3 (2007) HSE TDV6 Java Black/Ebony Black, Privacy glass, Manual gear box

I used to drive Mitsubishi for more than 12 years with no issue, just the maintenance, and spent much less money while having purchased it. Discovery 3 (2007) HSE TDV6 Java Black/Ebony Black, Privacy glass, Manual gear box

Surely many of the potential problems would have started to crop up now on D3's that have done 50K miles or more ? Most day to day drivers of most vehicles probably only do 15K per year... so some of us are around twice their effective age already.
And I see many older than 3 years old cars on the road that I am sure are just getting regular servicing either by the manufacturer or an independent.
In fact I see a huge amount of Discovery's on the roads, of all ages. Being driven by families that I'm sure could not afford big bills for maintenance.
Those that use their D3's off road (some are harder on them than others) would be ageing theirs quicker. I have yet to hear of anything major to break like those on the supposedly very unreliable previous models.
Wake up - If LR built lemons all the time, we would not be here now with the D3, RRS, new FFRR, Freelander 2 and a bizillion Series and Defender's on the roads around the world.

oh... but if it makes sense to trade in after three years (I'n on a finance plan) the I will. If not then I'll extend the warranty with LR and continue to enjoy my D3. With LR any recall work, design fault parts etc will be covered - unlike 3rd party warranty.
