So, the warrenty expiry time approaches in the next few months for us early D3 owners. Anyone wavering or having a change of heart about long term ownership? After making an A4 size list of the warrenty issues I've had, then a call to L/R to get the cost of extended cover, (£1200 approx inc L/R Assistance), I must admit I'm having renewed thoughts although my annual mileage has dropped considerably this year which reassures me slightly, I think!!
The flip side of the coin is what on earth could replace the D3...apart from another one; & the dogs love the rear A/C too. Aagh -decisions! Richard

My plan is to keep it for 5 years before handing it over to SWMBO or trade in at a dealer. Will it be for another Disco (4?) it's too early to say because I haven't experienced any problems so far so the only things I have to say about it are all positive.
And when I say positive, for me that means it's had all 7 seats with people in them, it's had the back loaded up for furniture, tip runs, towing trailer, towing cars off roundabouts , off road (need to go again!) luxury motorway cruising. ALL of the things that I bought it for and it hasn't failed me. I haven't even had the suspension failure or EPB so I'm feeling a little left out......
Just got the camping to go and then it's ticked all of the purchase boxes Bodsys Brake Bible

£1200 for a years extra warranty
I would be looking at non LR warranty as long as you check the small print the cover is pretty comprehensive and will be an awful lot cheaper (quoted £650 for 'Gold' cover - see below)

I am still intending on keeping the car for another 1 or 2 years. Mine will be on 90k at 3 years old. Although if someone throws a good pcp deal at me in November, I might be persuaded otherwise
I coud get warranty extension, but 1 year @ 1200 is a lot. The cost to change to another HSE, with the miles I do is going be over 30k and thats an awful lot of repairs!
I think peoples perception of the car will change after warranty expiry, and tolerance of faults will creep in. Although EPB and suspension failures will need to be fixed. I suspect that anyone getting a fault that appears once in a blue moon, and resets with an ignition cycle will convieniently ignore it!
Overall, I am confident in my car, I know its history and will take my chances. After 5 years and 150k miles, it should have a little bit of value left, and could make a nice off-road toy for somebody.

I posted the cover details in the hope that someone on here would spot if anything vital is missed, I for one can't see anything other than perhaps the electronic sensors etc on the car but I guess they are tied into the components that are covered.
This price was from www.warrantydirect.co.uk who I know nothing of but just googled and got some figures. 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

Same experience here Bodsy; 'Lumpy' has done everything and more asked of it without complaint. And there's no need to feel left out; unless of course you've had your Drivers seat module replaced to fix the slowly drifting wing mirrors? This is my only warranty issue so far.
Currently I'd be happy to stick to my original plan of running the D3 until it drops. I got 13 years out of one of my Volvos before PXing it in full working order, so here's hoping that the D3 can be continously maintained for decades like the Series machines.
I hope too that in 2.5 years the D3 warranty costs will have dropped as they will be targetted at cars that thankfully currently seem a lot more reliable than the early ones; although by then the Tax Disc itself will probably be in excess of £1200 P/A anyway Dr. Ian Malcolm:

the key thing is, they don't use their get out clause -
"That's wear and tear"
after all that could be put down to any failure!!! 🏴

Most aftermarket warranties only cover the component that fail, not ancilliaries damaged by the failure. As an (extreme) example, if you have a driveshaft shear and the flailing end punches through your alternator, sump or whatever, the warranty pays for the driveshaft (if it's not down to wear and tear) but won't pay for the alternator, sump etc.
They also tend to exclude fluids, gaskets, seals and labour costs that can be attributed to replacing same.
As a final nail in the coffin, many have a maximum hourly rate they will pay, and the rate they pay sure as hell won't get you a LR dealer, or many independant specialists for that matter.
Granted, not all of them have all these deficiencies, but it's worth checking these things before dismissing the LR warranty as too expensive. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I've heard good things about Warrenty Direct & certainly no-one could argue about their price. The major issues I have had ie new gearbox, new clutch, new ecu, 3 air suspension compressors, gear selection indicator jobbie, cruise control, master clutch cylinder, water washer bottle etc (god it is a list isn't it) all would have been covered. I guess it's just fear of the unknown. Still, the forum instills me with confidence & I would absolutely hate paying out over 6K to the vatman again with a new vehicle!! Will see if I waver Richard

I think I remember seeing a similar Gold or Platinum cover where you select if you want a Dealer to service it or if you are happy for their garage network to service it. I think it added about £200 onto the cost.
By the time you've added that up and then the potential cost of a replacement loan car etc then the LR one with LRA doesn't work out so bad after all.
But if you never need it, it's a waste of money. However if you do need it, then it's worth it's weight in gold!
That's the whole point of warranty insurance then really...... Bodsys Brake Bible

Quite true -when my D3's been off the road it's never less than a week as parts always seem an issue. Can't quite fit the family + dogs in a mini or cobra so a huge replacement vehicle is always needed Richard
