Seems to be a lot of talk about LEZ in South Wales.

I would say get an early D3 HSE, pre 06 for cheaper tax, not just for the cheaper tax as that could be small potatoes if something goes wrong, but more as a taster and later if you feel the need you can upgrade to a D4, rather than walk into top of your price range D4 and it turns out to be a pup and drags your wallet down.
The tax is an issue as the cars age people just wont buy a 15 year old 2/3k car that is 600 a year to tax.
The comments above ref anything pre Euro6 being an issue in the next 5 years or so are I reckon spot on.

Once it starts it will steam roll quickly to other areas. I bought my MY13 D4 knowing it’s probably only go5 a few years before it’s banned in Bath. It’s a stop gap car until hopefully the Rivian is introduced to the UK.

Don't automatically believe all the negative comments about Disco's. Yes they have problems, but then all makes do. I'm on my fourth Discovery and I've never had a serious problem (yet, fingers crossed!).
My neighbors was on 235,000 when she sold it.
Your wife has the right idea, because they are lovely cars to drive .

I moved to a D3 from a Land Cruiser Amazon and have gone on to buy another 2 D3s.
Initially I thought I'd made a mistake but after finding a decent independent in Edinburgh and then gathering the tools and experience to do the work myself I can't yet think of anything else of the same vehicle type that I'll have, save for the ali Range Rovers coming down A LOT in price.Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto
