D3 Front doors staying unlocked (intermittant) |
|
I went to check the car was locked.
Pulled the drivers handle and it was unlocked and the alarm went off.
I unlocked the car, relocked it (twice), and so 3 times the drivers door was unlocked. Oh damm I thought , that another job!, replace the motor.
I then went to get into the passenger side to lock the door manually. (i think the passenger door was also unlocked when it should have been locked).
I then pressed the lock fob and the horn sounded as if a door was open (but it wasn't).
I then got onto the rear seat (rear locks working) to watch the internal front locking buttons as I pressed the fob, (I could of used a front seat ) and then both front doors decided to work correctly now
Anybody come across this with the front doors not locking ? (but more a software glitch)
I guess I manually moved the drivers lock which could of helped it start working

In my car this happened. Finally I could only open the drivers door with the central switch and had to replace the co-driver [ righthand side] front doorlock..
Apparently it is tracable with the codes from the OBD2. But having a trusted mechanic is handy in these instances..

I'm getting tooted at now and then, and I think all the door motors need a strip down, clean, and regrease, and probably some of the rods/gears etc.

We had it in Spain and France due to dust buildup in the door hanlde which was preventing free movement of that cable attached to the handle and kept door unlocked all the time
proper stripp and cleanup did the job
good luck

one of 2 likely causes.
most likely being the door actuator is dying ive had to replace 1 on each of my discos and the other one
the plastic nipple on the end of the door handle release cable has cracked / split from the end of the cable were it clips into the handle
not obvious visually so check it carefully and give it a wiggle MY05 SE D3 Manual my first LR what a car

I seem to have a related problem on my 2004 d3 , all works well with one press of the lock button . but if I use a second press within 3 seconds as per the instruction manual to use the alarm without interior space protection if a window is to be left open it seems to unlock the door again ? although if i open the door the alarm does sound . I will investigate more tomorrow !

HMMM I think the problem is me not understanding the instructions very well ? If i use one press of the lock button then after a few seconds give it a further two presses within three seconds of each other it seems to do whats required . Mind you i still do not understand why if I start by giving the lock button two quick presses it alarms the car but leaves the doors unlocked ?

Well it shouldn't leave it unlocked.
I'm finding I have to press it 3 times for it (drivers) to be locked. (opposite to you)

No thats the same as me I think
, If i press once it locks , if i start by pressing twice it alarms but leaves unlocked , if i press once then wait a few seconds then press twice in quick succession it locks without the interior movement . Is that the same or do you just press 3 times in quick succession?

I don't know if this will be of any help bring to track it down , I have copied and pasted from the online hand book .
2. Lock button: Press to superlock all doors and to activate the perimetric alarm and interior space protection* and activate the tilt sensor* (see Superlocking, 37, Tilt Sensor*, 39).
Press twice within three seconds to lock all doors and activate the perimetric alarm, but NOT activate interior space protection* or tilt sensor*.
The direction indicator lamps will flash three times.
3. Unlock button: Press once to disarm the alarm and unlock the driver’s door and to activate the ’Lazy seats’* feature, (see Lazy seats*, 54). Press again to unlock the remaining doors (see Single-point entry, 39).
Press once to activate the memory seat and mirrors settings (see DRIVER’S SEAT MEMORY FACILITY*, 53)
In either case, the interior lamps illuminate and the direction indicators flash once.
The hazard warning lamps will quickly flash eight times when the vehicle is disarmed if the alarm has sounded since the vehicle was last armed.
4. Customer Configuration - ’Land Rover’ button: This button can be configured to operate panic alarm, headlamp courtesy delay or suspension control (see ’LAND ROVER’ BUTTON, 34).
Partial arming
If the driver’s door is not fully closed when the handset lock button is pressed, the doors will remain unlocked and the alarm will remain disarmed. A brief sound from the vehicle horn will confirm that the door is not fully closed.
If a passenger door or other aperture is not fully closed when the handset lock button is pressed, the ’partial arming’ attributes of the security system will enable as much of the system to be armed as possible (all fully closed door, bonnet or tailgate apertures will be protected, but an open one will not).
A brief sound from the vehicle’s horns will confirm that an aperture is not fully closed.
As soon as the open aperture is closed, the system will automatically arm, signalled by three flashes of the hazard warning lamps, with interior space protection* activating 30 seconds after all apertures are closed.
Note: The vehicle will not superlock if an aperture (other than the bonnet) is open.

Thanks. Found the issue with mine. Hoping oil or grease will fix.
The lock leaver inside isn't moving 100% of the travel on the first press.
On the third press it moves a tiny bit more which locks it.

Pete,
Could you please expand on solution as I have what appears to be the same problem. 3 presses then it locks.
