D3 in the LR Press

Lots of D3 stuff in the magazines this month - acceptance of problems from LR, Off road wheel and tyre packages, the stereo stripped down, the paint shop that has the highest standards in the world Rolling with laughter and depreciation of £600 pm on our cars! OH and a P38 that has been modified to look like a RRS. A little mention for Turbo Chip that they can now chip our cars from a port under the steering wheel.

A letter from a D3 owner Brian Jones in Chester - is he a member?

Pelyma, it was me as I am arranging a trip to Iceland for 2007 with one of the RRS guys. It is going to be a little expensive, but what the hell, if you or anyone is interested, please pm me, so I can keep a copy on file as to who is really interested. If I don't get pm's it is easily lost in the thread. By the way, can't take your tin tent.

How rude. I thought this was posted by access http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1927

I noticed your posts on RRS - no way any of them are going to tackle that, they don't seem to want to do Rockingham even. Such a waste of a great car Crying or Very sad

Brian,

Just Pm'd you on my interest for 2007 filing - It's a great place, been many times and an out again this New Year. Repeating my PM - have relatives out there and my brother is married to an Icelander.

We [my brother and I] were planning a wee expedition next year - a D3 and lifted Defender. Done quite a bit of off-roading out there including some time on the glaciers (now that is fun). It's also not as cold as you think but like the UK the weather it is changeable.

Certainly would reccommend the place and BN's expedition would, no doubt, be extremely good fun.

Paul

Recall

Just picked this up. Sorry if old news butn has today's date (News section of Autotrader website)

Land Rover is recalling more than a thousand cars for checks on parking brakes and jacks.

In the biggest of the two recalls, Land Rover wants to examine the parking brakes of automatic Discovery 3, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models.

It has found that, even when the operating lever is moved into the 'park' position, and indicators suggest the car has been secured, the brake may not be applied. This could leave the vehicle free to roll away, although the electronic parking brake is not affected and should always be engaged.

In all, 881 cars are potentially affected by this defect, which is caused by a sub-standard component in the system.

In the second recall, 200 other coil-sprung Discovery 3 cars, as opposed to those with air suspension, have been found to have been supplied with the wrong type of jack.

The vehicles need a screw and bottle-type jack instead of the scissor design which has been provided, and can cause an unladen vehicle to become unstable when lifted for a wheel change.

Land Rover says there have been no reports of owners having experienced either of the potential faults, and so no accidents or injuries as a result.

Todays Autocar (110 years old this week too) has a review of their D3... not read it yet but has some nice pics from flicking though. Multipage so not just a quick catch up article.

Revised - Actually an article on how they took their car along with the LRE team across Iceland... The same trip as on the Times Online & CH4 websites... mentions the trim being ripped off in the icy river playing at Ice Breaker !

Slimer... there metal skid plate looks different to yours ? Do they have a new design or is this a custom job for ice work.

Interestingly they mention that the LRE guys say that the towing hooks from and rear are strong enough to hang the D3 from with another hanging off the back !! Damn thats strong.
