D3 Manual Hunting & No low down power
Hey gang,
I have a long standing pair of issues with the D3, more irritating than detrimental, but if theyre fixable, id love to sort them so if anyone has any ideas, itd be great!
Vehicle Spec:
2005 D3 Manual
Issues:
- Hunting -
When in traffic/any situation where at slow rolling speed (Foot barely on the accelerator) the D3 starts to fluctuate RPMs, causing the D3 to jerk forward irratically. If you take your foot off the pedal, its stops. If you leave your foot barely on the pedal, itll continue to do this and get increasingly dramatic as it finds a natural 'resonance' if that makes sense. No idea what causes this, happens in 1st and 2nd for sure, not sure about the rest of the gears. im ruling out a clutch, gearbox, brakes, rolling assemblies issue as all of these are in good order and i mantain them myself, and this issue has persisted regardless of mantainence in all these areas. Best guess is an electronic issue, but ive no idea where to start!
- Low Power From Idle-
This issue is a lot more annoying for me, as i do a lot of towing... basically, whether theres a trailer attached or not, there is little to no power available to get going, you've to be quite careful coming up off the clutch so as not to stall. It is as though an 'anti stall' feature is not working, or there is incorrect data going to the ecu and its not fueling correctly for the condition, if that makes sense. Its basically a massive flat spot in the power band. This issue is hugely exaggerated with towing or on any sort of a hill start.
Its occurred to me that the 2 issues are possibly linked but im not sure.
Any suggestions on either would be greatly appreciated!!
Cheers!

Reviving an old thread here as I too have the irritating low speed hunting and jumping. Symptoms just as described over. No loss of power at low revs, though!

I had similar symptoms - it was the oil temperature sensor in the engine sump - it goes bad and gives a reading of -32. This gives the symptom you describe.
If you have as GAP IID (or similar) bring up the reading and check it for plausibility.
You can just change the sensor with out draining the oil if you are quick and only spill 'some' oil. But it will be messy.Series one 1949 - in bits, chassis is strapped to the ceiling in my garage (beside the canoe)

Disco 3 - currently in bits

I don't have the hunting problem but my lack of power issue is still ongoing.
