D3 rear upper bush, watch what you buy off of ebay!

Noticed rear bush worn, so bought new bush/bolt etc, removed old bush, fit new bush and a few gentle taps with my hammer and its fitted ie its to bloody loose and wont last 5 minutes, so beware of good old ebay Censored

This is what I had to do to get the bush to be a tight interference fit, how long it will last is anyones guess? but used to do this on truck gearboxes years ago and they lasted.

Hi mate

I bought the meyle bushes from advanced and fitted perfectly

Looks as though as u say there’s some out there that are no good

May I ask , that looks like you’ve dot punched it or is it small pilot drill holes

I don't think that'll last long at all. Even with the centre punch marks, the surface area of interference is very small. Would have been safer getting the right bushes.

Not bodging Mr. Green there is an actual proper tech term.

That's why I only keep OEM bushes. Buying the cheapest parts you can find is often a false economy...

To be fair Mike, it wasnt the cheapest, I bought it as it came as a kit with the bolt/washer/nut so I didnt have to faff about with seperate orders.

But I have learnt my lesson from now on its genuine or better if its available.

It had its annual wash today and scrubbed up quite nicely plus the bush didnt fall out after 30 miles Mr. Green

Had a reply from the ebay seller and they reckon they have sold 90 of these bushes with no issues to date, I cannot believe I am the only one who thought it was to loose a fit?

I wonder just how many cars are driving around with their bushes about to move in the housing?

It does state in the workshop manual, that the hub carrier is only serviceable for 3 replacement bushes, then it must be replaced...

Thats interesting, the car is on 131k and I just assumed it was the original as it was well rusty and once under pressure from the puller took a smack to the carrier to initially jar it free.

Do you need any speacial tools to change this top bush, and does the car need 4 wheel alignment after? I’ve got one with a bit of play in it (MOT advisory) and I thought I’d change it before it gets too bad👍🏻
