D3 TD V8 - when?

The testdrive of the RR TD V8 was fine, the D3 TD V6 and chipped RRS TD V6 were quiet bad.

Already sold my G-Wagon V8 CDI and I can´t wait too long...

Any ideas of a timeline?
Thx Joe

The word is never!

Its more likely that the next facelift will see the 3.0 TDV6 in the D3. I think the TDV8 will be for Range Rovers only.

heard on good authority that the LR3 won't get the TdV8 as a) itsa too big and won't fit (but may be Censored ) but b) more importantly it would make the LR3 too heavy. Word is that LR and looking at a major weight loss programme to get the Lr3 to a point hwere the TdV8 would be acceptable. i.e. read 1st face lift 2010?

The weights are similar to RRS and FFRR. I think it would be more of a branding issue. Why buy a more expensive car when you get a more practical one in the D3. The only way I would see the V8 being used is if Toyota and Mitsubishi turn out competant off roaders that do 0-60 in 8.5 seconds. If you look at the performance of all LR products they are always just a few seconds slower, then when the bar is raised a new engine is produced. Just a hunch!

Gazzer..... Are you American Confused

The 'LR3' is just for our cousins across the pond. It's the 'Disco3' here if you are from the UK.

Don't think we will see a D3 TDV8 as it would take too many sales from the FFRR.

the TDV8 is going in the RRS shortly...

Coming soon, the new Range Rover Sport TDV8
Our acclaimed sports tourer line-up will soon have another member. Joining the team is a powerful new, twin turbo V8 diesel vehicle, ready to deliver huge reserves of responsive power on and off-road. At the same time, specification upgrades and improvements have been made across every model. Four piston Brembo front brakes are now fitted as standard across the range and the interior is lavished with many extra touches, like greater use of Noble metallic finish and a crisper, clearer instrument panel

Saw that on the LR e-mail received yesterday and reckoned that paves the way for the possibility of the TDV8 in a D3. Still don't see it happening though. There was a definite marketing angle towards the 'Range' Rover and TDV8 - All rangies will soon be V8 whether petrol or diesel. Guess this may apply to the sport too...... Confused

TDV8 RRS is already being tested in the mags. Some say the V8 petrol will go as its no longer necessary. SC will stay though.

TDV6 will also remain in the range too from what I read.

Not that we care as its not in the D3

Agreed, that the LR3 (Disco3! Razz ) doesn't really need the TdV8, as it's not supposed to be fast and sporty! May a 'twin turbo' of the TdV6 would be a better bet, afteraall a bit more poke never goes a miss.

If you need extra poke it will be cheaper to buy the TDV6 D3 and upgrade it with a TC or JE map... assuming a theoretical TDV8 D3 would be a 3-4K more than a TDV6. Would be bound to be more than the cost of a remap.
