D3's a la Francais

Hi peeps, hoping to move to France next year and looking to get a D3 HSE. Looking on the french websites the HSE doesn' texist as it seems to be BYO (build your own spec) which notches up to 60,000 euros for a UK HSE specced D3. This equates to about £40k which is still less than the £44k charged for a UK HSE D3. (Before discounts)

What is the French VAT my maths seems to work it at 16.3% is this correct?

I have investigated buying a UK D3 here which you can do with no VAT added and then registering it in France and paying duty there. But what list price will the French use to calculate the VAT, French pricing which is less or what you paid????

I am just seeing if by getting off my ar$e I may save myslef a few squids.

So do those UK/French residents have a UK car or a French car???

French VAT is 19,6%...

The HSE exist on the French market but its specs might be different from the UK market as the specs are market dependant...

Being French, I have a HSE (French specs with some extras...) with LHD... Wink

Ouch, better off with 17.5% VAT here in UK.

May I ask how much you payed on the road for a French D3 with UK spec HSE? I see from the internet, you are right they call it HSE but everything seems to be an optional extra is this right?

I don't recall the exact price but it was below 56.000€ with a warranty that was extended to 5 years and some goodies like the Rear Difflock or the extended rear AC for instance.

You can "negotiate" the fixed price with the dealerships with 7% being the average offer. Then, on the net you can find down to 14% by asking insurance companies and provided that you insure the vehicle through them...

I am not sure if you could get a French registry if the vehicle is RHD as an LHD version is readily available on the market...

If the use is to be essentially in France, I would not bother with an RHD which would be hard to sell here... Now, if you intend to resell, in a few years, in the UK, you might want to consider an RHD...

Thanks Gurvan, I would prefer to go RHD but my French is not good at the mo (hope to get it alot better!) so I'm not sure about trying to buy and sell a car in France. Any idea on the residual after 3 years, Uk will be about 45-48% after 3 years, hoping France is better.

Sorry... I don't have a clue as to what the residue value might be after a few years in France as I intend to keep mine quite a while.

I can probably help a bit as far as buying a car in France is concerned but that might also depend on where you plan to settle as it is always more evident to deal with a dealership nearby... Wink

Our car was ordered in the UK to UK HSE spec, but LHD.

The French (and I think all Euro) specs are roughly one level lower for the same tailgate badge, so a French HSE equates to a UK SE, etc.

I'm not sure how difficult it is to insure and register a modern imported car here, since if the car doesn't have French type approval (as opposed to European), you could in in the merde! Crying or Very sad

We were able to insure our ancient car when we came, as a classic, but it would have been horrendous to registering it on normal French plates!
