D4 Anti Theft fit fake OBD Socket

Seeing so many Disco’s and RR’s being stolen these days, I’ve been using a faraday pouch for my key - which is inconvenient but it works.

I've been advised that the "Thieving Scroats" use a device for keyless cars to open the door, I'm also informed however that they still have to plug into the OBD port to start the car without the key - even if they can detect the key signal from your house to open the car door, they have to plug into the OBD to start it...

I’m dreading mine being stolen so I’ve just bought a “dummy OBD” kit which gives power but nothing else, supposed to make it look like it’s got blocking SW installed.

I can unclip the lower dash and remove it. However HOW do I get the OBD socket itself un-
clipped? I can’t see how and don’t want to break it…. Any advice much appreciated!

Thanks for posting and for having a go. Just what many of us needed. Also watching progress. Please keep us posted on progress.

I asked this question recently and got the following reply from Farmer Chalk in this item:

https://www.disco4.com/forum/yorkshire-ne-owners-198583.html

"Sorry missed this… yes but depends on the model… later JLR products the obd plug just clips in and can, with a small pick or screwdriver, therefore be carefully popped out.

The D3 is harder because I think the loom part has a couple of screws holding in place.. hopefully someone will be along shortly to inform us… the D3 is actually safer as it has an old key type ignition lock..and is clearly less valuable"

Don't know if that helps. Please report back. Good luck.

Hi Thanks for reply.

I've actually just learned how to turn off "keyless entry", which has worked - the trick is holding keyfob near to gearchange when pressing the buttons in quick succession...

Next thing is removing the OBD without breaking anything. I can't see where to put a screwdriver etc., so if someone has removed one before and can advise it would be helpful...

I’m not certain but I think that one you have there is for a D3 not a D4…
The D3 screws in and the D4 one just clicks into place….

Hopefully someone who has taken a D3 apart may assist…

If I am right I may have a D4 one which I could swap you if required?

I think you may be right, it doesn't look the same! I hadn't realised... I've contacted the supplier (eBay)...

Glad it helped

Plus found these various picks extremely useful for undoing various clips along with getting O rings off etc

Hope u get it sorted out

Thanks for replies and advice...

I've returned the fake OBD and been supplied the correct version!

It is quite fiddly to unclip the original OBD because you can't see the back of it and you can't get your hand in. Examining the 'fake' replacement enables you know where to feel for the small gap and put a small flat screwdriver in to press the release.

Easy then to fit the 'fake' and connect it to the original, which I've pushed out of site.

It's easy to unclip/remove the lower dashboard panel whenever I need access the OBD.

I'm also considering a window sticker 'OBD Blocked' as a possible deterrent to a would-be thieving scroat?

Next, I might do this fake OBD fit on my Wife's Evoque...

Have you tried plugging anything into the dummy OBD socket to check it? IID or code reader for instance?
Cheers
