D4 battery question
Folk's D4 is approaching 6 years and with the battery issues on the boat (now fixed) got around to talking about their car. Is it getting to the point of changing? What's the battery if choice for a 59 plate D4? Trying to get them out of the habit of telling LR dealer to change things. I gather it has to be a new fangled AGM type and the BMS needs reset, can I do that through my IID (just my D3 registered on it) or do I have to add their VIN to it?
Question, questions.
TIA from da Carribean, mon!!

It depends what type of battery is on it now, AGM is recommended for a 3.0ltr D4, if it has already got one fitted Tayna.co.uk have them for around £110 next day delivery, if it has not got a AGM fitted it will need updating but you cannot do it without another VIN number added to the Iid tool, but that needs doing anyway
If it is a 2.7 D4 an Exide premium 017 is the way to go around £80 from same place. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

What I thought. It's a 59 plate HSE 3.0 D4 and I think it's after the change to AGM but will have to look at the battery to be sure, or get them to take a pic of it. Hopefully if it is AGM it'll have AGM on it somewhere. Then I'll get one delivered to me and fit it, hopefully as straight forward as fitting one to the D3.
If it's not an AGM I won't bother changing it to AGM, just get our fave Exide from Tanya.
Cheers

I can only recommend fitting a good AGM (the Exide one is good); anything else is just rolling the dice with the rather fussy BMS. JLR found out the hard way when they skimped and tried to run a regular battery on a BMS equipped vehicle.

Any idea when AGMs came in, was it with the 3.0l?

Early D4s came with a regular lead acid battery but some of these will have been changed to an AGM under the TSB - if the customer raised a concern. The last few MY11s came with AGMs and all MY12 onwards will have seen nothing but. LR don't even stock regular batteries anymore.

So enter your method of resetting the BMS into the wiki and post a link to this thread. I'll read it.
