D4 is brilliant
Now 6 months into life with SDV6 2012 D4 which is just brilliant, after 12 years with 2005 TDV6 D3. I'm surprised there are still so many D4 technical problems still reported, our D4 feels fully sorted and rock solid, whereas the D3 was always a tad flaky

You should be glad you don't have a D4 V8 5.0, they have lots of issues with the timing chain. The D3 V8 4.4 is the only reliable one.

^ Can’t say that has been my experience at all. We have lots of 5.0 V8s on the road here, and I haven’t heard of any issues with the chains.
Mine has been faultless. Best LR I have ever owned, by far!King of the typo.
MY11 D4 5.0 V8, Bournville, lots of goodies!
Now departed: '85 RR Vogue, '94 D1, '95 D1, '70 SIIA, '97 D1, '04 D2a. All V8, except for the SIIA - but that drank as much petrol anyway!

If you spend your time perusing sites such as this one, you will soon convince yourself that there isn't a Disco driving around without problems. It's best to bear in mind that the vast majority of D4 owners are very happy motorists and simply don't post on here, even if they are members because their vehicle is performing perfectly.
Even if you read the press reports that have reliability tables and see Land Rovers in the bottom half of the table, it's good to remember a couple of things. Firstly, pretty much all main stream vehicles these days are reliable and the difference between top, middle and bottom of any such table is pretty small. Secondly, a D4 is a complicated beast. The more complicated vehicles are, the more components can potentially go wrong. Even with this though, if you compare a D4 with many simple family runabouts, there's little difference in reliability.
So, yes, perhaps problems may occur a tad more frequently with a D4 than, say, a Ford Fiesta, but the advantages of driving a D4, for me anyway vastly outweigh that.

well said pedros
you do find that a lot of forums can become a soap box for people to vent their spleen, in fact a lot of people join forums just for that reason, that said there is an awful lot of good advice on here and a good mix of people with and without D4 problems

I'd like to add my support for the D4.
Mines a 2012 SDV6 XS. OK, so I did have a hole in the exhaust crossover pipe but that was cleared up and now erased from my memory banks.
It's not a very economical car, it's reasonably expensive to run, but it is the perfect car for me and my family. I simply don't know of another car that would fit the bill. It's brilliant.

Even though during the past 10 months mine has needed the following:
Handbrake replacement
Steering rack
Front suspension arms
Air compressor
Battery
In addition, there was also a service and I finally upgraded the halogen headlights to xenons, even though this probably comes close to £3,000 I still love it (although perhaps not so much yesterday when I thought the few week old compressor had broken!).Andy

I am really starting to fall out with mine. I love the drive but starting to push her luck!
Was in the garage last week having both inlet manifolds replaced and a bill of £1k then on Friday driving down the motorway the passenger wiper stopped working, luckily it was only a loose bolt so free to fix, but the cap over the nut has gone.
Then since Sunday I am constantly getting an error about the suspension temperature, this is without adjusting the suspension in any way and remains on all the time

That must have been one of the few messages I didn’t get during my recent run of compressor problems. The favourite one I was getting was not to exceed 30mph.
Given I have seen a few comments on here about the inlet manifolds, I’m sure that will be something mine requires soon.
My wife hates it, but made a good point when the battery failed on Thursday night (luckily I had a replacement at home that I’d even charged that morning), that it isn’t a car it’s your hobby, which sums it up well. I also worry that much of what I have now replaced would only need doing if I bought myself a newer D4, so may as well keep and enjoy mine.Andy
