D4 clutch issue

anybody had this, seems as though I have a clutch fault. in 4th and 5th the revs rise when pulling uphill. it reaches around 2000rpm then a distinct rise of revs before it drops back. could this be the dual mass flywheel developing a mechanical issue? this is a 10 plate that has only done 34k.... so clutch issue seems a bit premature. .. any sensors could cause this?.... it seemed to happen after I'd used the snow programme, coincidence?... it's going to the stealers next week to be checked out however, a bit of knowledge from you good people would be grateful, for armed is for warned so they say

It would depend also on how the 34,000 miles have been clocked up. Stop/start around towns and cities would hammer it. Used once a week on long motorways wouldn't (unless someone uses the clutch pedal as a foot rest?).

I had a D3 fail at 45,000 miles (about 500 miles after I bought it!). Fortunately an agreement was reached between LR and the Dealer to sort it, but that was more wear on the DMF than the clutch plate. I do know that the previous owner lived on the outskirts of a large city, so........

Are you talking about a manual gearbox type fault?

Did LR produce any manual D4s?

D4 commercials had the 2.7 + manual box in the early years of its life Thumbs Up

Sounds like a worn clutch, only slipping on overboost...

D4 commrcial with a manual box. i know the last owner, he was gentle on the landy. never been used for heavy towing and we both live in the countryside... the strange thing is that it only occurs in 4th and 5th and not all the time. 2000 revs pulling up a hill or incline on an A class road locally, it then gains 100 revs then drops back to the 2000... it then wont do it again if if you try... it's off to the stealers for investigation, luckilly i have an approved used vehichle waranty. iwas wondering if it was the DMF and not the clutch plate

DMF may well be worn but they tend to get a bit "clunky" when they are on the way out.

The DMF was designed for modern high output engines as a shock absorber between high engine torque and drive train input. They are a good idea but must be viewed as a wear and tear item, some manufacturers even show them in the handbook as a scheduled replacement item.

There are conversion back to solid flywheel kits available for some cars (not this one) but we avoid them as their aim is a cheap fix and just adds the strain back into where it was designed out of.

Lucky you have a warranty, hope they sort you out, whatever it is.

well it's in... the general diagnosis is the beginning of clutch wear. you have to pay to have it stripped out even if it is a waranty job.. they then get a man in to look at it, then decide if its a claim... bit of a load of tosh when you've been told on the QT that they have an issue with the original clutch and now replace them with a heavier duty part. Rolling Eyes hey have to ask and advise you if you would like the uprated part and advise you the clutch action is going to be 15% heavier Bow down is despair, just fit the thing Thumbs Up luckily other things rased there heads as it was going in. the tailgate latch failed and my parrot hans free fell off... so all fixed together.... under waranty (i hope) Thumbs Up
