Been to the dealers today to try and order a new D4 HSE.
Wanted to trade in my 2010 D4 HSE 51000 miles and all they offered me was £29000 for mine for a stock D4 HSE.
If I wanted a factory order the valuation would have to be done nearer the change over date.
So you put £1000 deposit on a new car, commit to a deal and then get shafted on a trade in nearer the time.
I said so you offer me 29K for mine and then put it on the forecourt for 36/37K.
He replied "Yes".
I've spent £100K on cars from them in the last 5 years and you get treated like this.
They even wrote to me to entice me into the dealers because they were short of 2nd hand D4 stock!
Time to find a new dealer.

Yes. I suppose this is why one is better off trading up just as the three year warranty is up.... always seem to be better trade-in values to be had at that stage, I've noticed.2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

Personally, and please don't shoot me, but I don't think that's all that bad really, after all your car has been well used with 50 odd thousand miles on.
What exactly where you expecting for it ?
I think if you shopped around someone may do a little better but I would think we are only talking a couple of grand more or thereabouts.

Vat is only payable on the dealers profit of the s/h vehicle.

Glasses valuation on my car is 32500 trade in.
The argument in question is that they will not commit to a valuation until nearer the time of change over.
So when you go to pick up 3 months down the line they offer you say 26K.
You can't dispute their valuation then when you're tied into a deal for a new car.
Their argument was that they don't know what the market value will be in 3 months, but they can happily sell a car with a guaranteed future valuation 3 years down the line.

£32k with 52k miles on ?
I can understand your frustration at them not willing to commit to a px price. Personally I would try elsewhere and see how they differ ?
Do you have a Stratstones near you, they seem very keen to do a deal recently, I have already bought mine and agreed the price and last weekend they rang and offered me % finance !

Time to try another dealer maybe as its sounds underpriced to start with Club Forum Criminal !!!

you are not committed to buy either. My dealer will take my order, no deposit, and if I change my mind before delivery thats fine..... they'll just sell it to someone else.Duncan

ljason286 If you had sold the xs privately would you have obtained a better price for the hse. Is it about cost to change ?
£41000 seems strong for the xs as carfile was selling new ones for £40,000 in the not distant past. Equally I understand that 8% discount is easily obtainable on a new disco.Discovery 3 HSE 55 plate Buckingham Blue with Alpacha

Cars depreciate, thats life, dealers make money out of selling cars, thats life. Stop moaning and either keep it or buy privately so you dont pay the dealers premium.....................................................................................................

I paid £26k for a 10 month old Landcruiser VX in 96 and kept it 11 years. I PX'd it for my D3 HSE and got £6k for it.
Excellent car and spent nothing on it in that time apart from a battery and an exhaust.
My D3 has been fantastic for 6 yrs and only cost me a compressor, apart from two spare wheels stolen!! (RLD security ordered).
I have lost little compared to the years of faithful service from both cars and have not spent fortunes in the dealers to keep a current VRN. I work in the insurance business for motors and the second hand values have fallen through the floor in recent years. I feel that hanging on to the motors is far better value than bunging the dealership an arm and a leg every couple of years. Repairs don't come to anything like the cost of keeping a young one.
Just like women really. FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

I had the same non-committing on price for the RRS I traded at the stealers for my current 2010 D4. But I took the plunge and 5 months later when the Diaco was ready they actually gave me marginally more for the RRS than predicted. No complaints from me.2016 D4 Landmark SDV6 (Euro6), Zanzibar (late run D4)

Hi all, we had the same issues when pxing our sore to for our new D4 HSE, once I nailed a dealer down with a "give me a price to swap or I'm walking" ultimatum, he soon put pen to paper!
We also noticed that the price to swap varried massively from dealer to dealer, my advice would be to shop around, we ended up using our local dealer, who are the smallest out of all 3 we visited, yet they still gave us the best deal!
