D4 MY12+ heated steering wheel install

After being asked about the heated steering wheel mod I made a few notes and took a few pics today.

1. First remove battery - turn off ignition and wait a minimum of 2 minutes, then check through the window that the park brake warning light, NAV screen & clock display are all off.
Remove the -ve terminal first, making sure that it can't spring back to the battery, then remove the +ve terminal (notes from hard reset)
Then wait a little while so all the electrical current discharges before taking the wheel off

2. Tools
Airbag removal see tool here http://disco4.com/wiki/Maintenance
Torx screwdriver to remove flappy paddles and controls if required
Socket to remove steering wheel nut if you don't have the heated clock spring
Long nose pliers for airbag clip removal

3. Remove flappy paddles with torx - this will greatly help you line up where the airbag clasp needs pulling free

4. Unclip airbag with tool (I've gone from a piece of bendy steel to buying a tool for £4 Laughing )

5. Remove airbag and note connection clips

6. If clockspting is not heated (see below pics to identify) remove cowling with 2 torx screws and then 4 philips screws hold the clockspring in place. The heated loom will be in a foam shield if not being used and is a black connector with red and black cables

7. Clockspring
Here is a heated clockspring

and here is a non heated clockspring

Just swap them over when you have the right one

Install is simply a reverse of what you've just done Thumbs Up
