D4 retro fit Heated steering wheel

Have read some postings/ threads on here re heated steering wheels but ended up totally confused.

D3 guys seem to hijack threads and so have different needs to D4, which also seem to of changed with MY spec

So on D4 (my12) do I need new steering wheel, another clock spring, enabling etc, etc.

You need a steering wheel, swichpack and perhaps a clockspring. D4s without heated wheel have been fitted with and without clocksprings that have connections for the heated elements, so you have to check.

If you havent got a heated wheel already then you will need a heated steering wheel and switch .

as far as the clockspring is concerened ..the only way to tell if you have the correct one is to remove the airbag and have a look for the additional 2 pin connector

it will also need enabling once fitted

Take it clock spring does not come with new steering wheel, so unless expensive best to order 2 at same time

Clock springs are expensive £220 odd and the steering wheels can also be expensive.

As said the wiring is there and although there is a file in the CCF to show heated wheel activated the wheel is hard wired so it doesn't need activated thru the CCF. Plug and play!

I think they only do one clock spring now that is cross model. And all new ones will have the heated pins.

I think.....

I got mine from TLO.

Not true in afraid Shocked

Iv looked at at least half a dozen new discos and they all have the old clock spring despite the documentation looking like they all should have the new clock spring

Sorry, I was meaning if you ordered it as a part new from LR it should be the heated one. Thumbs Up

Opposed to all MY12/13 having it. My 2012 didn't and the 2010 I have now (obviously) doesn't.

David, I found this after a brief search.
'the “rotary coupler” (also known as a “clock spring”) which sits behind the steering wheel to allow the airbag, horn and cruise control to maintain connectivity with the wiring behind the dashboard as the steering wheel rotates.

now we both know Thumbs Up

Thanks.
Now if it had said rotary coupler at the beginning all would have been crystal clear Whistle

Fitted my heated wheel this morning, which is a new take off RRS version bought a couple of months ago on eBay. It made me very happy to find the 12v heated wheel supply connection wrapped in foam behind the steering column cover Very Happy , so it was just a case of fitting the new clock spring and plugging it in!

It's a shame the paddles aren't enable-able on a D4, but maybe we'll work around that in the future.

Now I just need a proper cold morning to test it 8)
