D4 running costs

We have a new scheme at work that appears to be one of these PCP schemes for new cars, and also includes a maintenance scheme as well so all you would need would be insurance, tax and fuel, everything else (tyres, servicing, repairs) would be paid for, for 4 years and 75,000 miles. It does seem an incredibly good scheme as the interest is only 4.8% APR and for an XS would be £600 a month with a 10k down payment. The final payment would be £13k but looking at used 4 year old D3s with that milage and spec are at least £18k and 3 year old D4s are still at least £27k. This scheme also offers the new price at a saving of about 2K on LR web site prices.

To help me make an informed decision, can someone tell me what are the dealer prices for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th services, 19 inch tyres and normal consumables, such as discs and pads, fitted.

Have you looked to see what LR have on offer. My first D4 was on a sheme where I put down a minimum of 51% of the cost then paid noting for 2 years, I then had to pay the remaining 20K at the end of the two years. I paid money into an account each month for the two years and at the end of that had a large lump left towards the remaining 20K. For me it was a good deal.

Yes it is a bucketful of money but list price is over 45k so with interest and servicing and maintenance it isn't that much more. The other option, using the same deposit and payment terms is £400 a month for an 09 model without servicing and maintenance, but no final payment. I am just mindfull of the bills that can occur, having had a £9k one and the age of my D3 already, it would be nice to know that for 4 years I would have no bills what so ever and still have a decent return at the end.

I need to do some more research first but I am getting very tempted.

Hmm. If the list price is 45k, and they want 51,800 then that's a lot of cost to cover tyres and servicing. You need to think that maintenance issues would be covered under warranty anyway.

Not in yr 4. If the contract covers anything that fails then that is worth a years warranty (@£700). Doesn't seem a bad deal although you are paying interest on that final payment as well. I did a finance lease on my van with no final payment and worked out well. Maintenance could be added aswell. Might be worth speaking to a leasing firm for other types.

But don't forget the interest as well, you don't get free money from anyone.

Very true. It would be worth checking what finance deals the dealers have also though before committing.

Absolutely, this was just something new that has come out and made me realise I can do it. Another option I need to explore is LR customer services said that "they would assist me in buying a new car" when I had my problems last year, what exactly that means I have no idea at present although after their contribution to my service I won't hold my breath!

That seems like a fair deal. Consider inflation (which will discount your deferred cash payments), net cost to you for annual work on the vehicle which may also in effect be discounted in economic terms, and the fact you have the use of the vehicle - seems like a reasonable option.

As always, cars will depreciate, such schemes are JLRs means of hedging by using economic tools, and cars aren't an investment, but are good fun.

Try to get a slightly better deal, but I don't think this one is unreasonable. You'll get a good car at a fair price. Others will tell yu that there's cheaper out there, but for a new Discovery this seems fair.

I just tried a quote on the standard site (same company as the work deal), they wanted more just for the car than the work one did for car plus maintenance.

To get back to one of my original questions how much are the services and things like discs and pads from a dealer?
