I used to use TMC, but often found that the info was sent to the unit either too late, already in the traffic jam, or it was updated after the incident was cleared way too late and you were diverted for no reason. I think the issue is that the central control was informed by the services at the scene say the police who have far better things to be doing than informing the control that the road was now clear. How many times have you seen the sign Police Accident left at the side of the road for days after because they forgot to remove it. It would be a great system if updates were more timely and forthcoming, until that day comes it's a waste of time relying on it.

To my mind, TMC is, like satnav itself, useful but not to be taken as gospel. There's the option of displaying details in the LR system, and unlike either of my two past factory fitted systems, the LR one will warn me or narco flames due to roadworks, and offer a reroute.
I wouldn't leave home without knowing where I'm heading, usually relyng on satnav for fine tuning my route in the last few miles or so, and I wouldn't blindly reroute just because tmc says there's a problem.
Usually, I look at the detail screen and allow that to guide my decision, but it is my decision and I take full responsibility for it. Which is why i was stuck on the peripherique on the southern edge of Paris for 5 hours last week

D4/2010 Updated W-EUR maps in Dealership
Ref.: D4/2010
Hello,
I have just had my GPS Maps updates (Card Info Reads W-EUR - 05/2014).
I had been asking for it since late 2013, and dealer had told me that early summer 2014, a new version would be available.
I paid 250€ for the upgrade - performed at the LR Dealership (Belgium, Asse). It took just under two hours to complete.
The map update was really due - entires stretches of motorway were missing - I recognize many of the 'misses' spelled out in this thread.
However, I am quite pleased with the result, and just wanted to share.
Cheers

I have had the hard drive sat-nav updated (2014/15) on my MY2010 D4 this morning at Gordon Lamb in Chesterfield. The price was £109.99 installed. It will be interesting to see if the software is any better than the hopeless 2009 version!

I'll update when I know one way or another re the software. It would be great if it actually used sensible routes for once! There must be a good number of road layout updates in that time though.
I am also fed up with driving across nothing - will have to remember to call local dealerD4 2010 HSE Santorini Black

I paid £130 for mine online. The update took around 2 hours via USB. What a faff. It should be quicker than that!
Now that I have use Mongoose it will be a lot easier

SimonR you can buy the update USB sticks from Navteq but 2009 and 2010 MY cannot be updated using this method only later model years, unfortunately only a dealer can do it on 2009/10.

To be honest I've not really used it yet on a longer run. I've tried it locally (a couple of runs to East Mids airport), so I think even the previous useless software might have found that.
