Still love the old girl, but I'm just starting to mull over a possible change......tentatively looking at 2 year-old XS or HSE,ideally SDV6.
I realise,of course, that age and mileage are the main factors, but is there any anecdotal evidence that the D4 has addressed the main issues that seem to afflict D3's ? "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...
Locking rear E-diff

Personally speaking, I owned my 07MY D3 XS from new for 3 years & 75K miles. In that time the only thing it needed was a new pair of EGR valves replaced under warranty at 60K miles.
Had my 10MY D4 HSE for 29 months and 48K miles. No issues so far.

Think the d4s have to get a bit older yet before you start getting the d3 problems. they are still too new

Will be interesting to see how D4 owners feel once they start going out of warranty from September onwards.

That's no doom-saying, it's just saying it will be interesting.
Well of academic interest anyway.
PS In total non-doomsaying mode, at least LR seem to have got the EPB a bit better sorted. Now that's almost a compliment.

Any thoughts on buying the extended warranty? Seems expensive - but a D4 going wrong out of warranty is a very costly prospect! Paul

My D4 3.0 SE is now 2 years & 3 months old, and travelled 91,000 Klm's.
All good so far.
Just keep it serviced and do the in between service oil changes.
Cheers, Craig

As the owner of a 58 plate D3 which I am considering changing I wondered if anyone can enlighten me as to the relative reliability of the D3 versus the D4. How do the D3 EPB and FBH compare to those on the D4? What has been done to overcome the few real bugs in the D3?
Having had a look at the D4 sections of this forum I still can't really get a feel for a comparison.
