D4 Windscreen replacement

D4 Landmark windscreen needs replacing, cracked due to idiot driving too fast on a new top dressed road with chippings.

Need it doing by next Friday in West Yorkshire.

Best to go through local independent garage or use a firm like Autoglass?

Any idea on price?

Autoglass webshop not playing at this moment in time.

Is it not covered with on your insurance? Insist on Pilkington or genuine Land Rover. Good luck.

Make sure they fit a Pilkingtons glass windscreen other makes of glass can give you problems. Do a search on this web site.

Brendan, go through your insurance, pay the excess circa £100, use their approved installer.
When they phone to get you booked in, insist on a Pilkington Opti-Kool screen.

Job done. Thumbs Up

we had this in January....direct line were a pain ...insisted we use autoglas….75 quid excess....
autoglas wouldn't tell us maker...spec or price of their screen offer...went to main dealer as we wanted Pilkington.. £685....direct line after a fuss quoted £562 for Pilkington after taking excess off...wanted to do it in the road or on the drive...no way....done at main dealer under cover and controlled environment....you will have to fight to get Pilkington..best of luck

Thank you for the advice. Have just had a Blackvue dash cam fitted. The fitter suggested that we take the vehicle back to him prior to having windscreen fitted as he would remove it and put wires out of the way. Apparently windscreen fitters have just cut the cables meaning the wiring harness had to be replaced.

The Landmark is currently in our warehouse and will stay there until it is taken down to the dealers to be replaced. At least we have a week to sort it out before we depart for Germany, if not back to plan A and going in the 110.

Guess what I will be doing first thing Monday morning?

Just had mine done on the Landmark by National Windscreens.
We’re ok with fitting a Pilkinton screen after a quick chat on the phone.
I have a BlackVue and just removed the old one and pulled the cables back.
The only issue I had was the side trims.
I had asked them if they had a new set of clips which they said they did.
First trip on the motorway there was a whistle from the trims followed by the passenger side coming off.
When I checked they had used a generic clip instead of the correct clip and they wouldn’t hold.
Replaced them myself as it was easier than complaining!
Hope you manage to get it sorted before your trip, definitely more comfy than the 110.

D3 2005 HSE, Bonatti Grey, now sold but still comes back for servicing.
Defender 2002 Td5 Commercial, had a hard life but slowly being restored.
I only work so I can afford to repair my Land Rovers!

Well I emailed our local LR indie on a Sunday afternoon and have had this reply

Quote:

Hi Brendan, I will ring you Monday to discuss but 99% of the time your Insurance company will send a mobile man in a van to your house. I can pretty guarantee it will not a genuine screen they will want to fit. We can discuss all the options on Monday.

One thing I can guarantee is that a genuine windscreen will be fitted. Will photograph the approval markings etc tomorrow. Now either the insurance company will pay up OR we will pay for it. In the latter case then the insurance company will lose a much larger annual insurance premiums.

Now in about 2010 the NFU seriously messed us around over a £1500 theft claim. They did pay out eventually after an independent loss adjuster come out but they lost £6k+ annual premiums for being complete Censored .. NFU stands for No ferking Use insurance company and I still tell people to avoid them like the plague!

All I can say that I had little trouble getting NFU to pay for genuine LR screen on two occasions and just £50 excess.

Well personally I would not touch the NFU with someone else's bargepole!

The NFU reported themselves to their own complaints department! The loss adjuster from turning up to leaving shaking his head not believing what the NFU was up to was less then 5 minutes! He could not believe that he had to take photos off the fields on one side of our drive as the NFU did not believe we had fields on one side of our drive. He also had to take a photo of the wall on the other side of the drive which was a two storey building over a 100 feet long.

All this mess could have been voided if someone in the office had the common sense to look at a map or street view where our drive is clearly visible with a Land Rover parked on it.

Well because we have a motor trade policy the excess is a mere £350

Now this is arranged via an insurance broker, first claim in about 9 years. Now this particular insurance broker has err more then one policy with us and gets a rather substantial annual premiums out of us. Insurance broker is not being very cooperative!

Guess which insurance broker we will not be reusing at renewal time. First policy renewal is August and I think it is time to say goodbye!
