DAB Antenna - is there one in the shark fin?

If I buy a DAB radio (FM transmitter type - ie transmits to FM preset) is there an antenna to connect to that will give better reception inside the shark fin on the roof of a 55 HSE?
If not anyone have pics of their alternative solution installed?
Passenger side A trim seems popular from my quick search.

I bought one of these units from Comet about 2 or 3 years ago. The model was a Pure Highway.

The station would drop out whenever the car was on the move and after a couple of hours of trying it out, I returned it to the shop and was given a refund.

Things may have changed, but I would suggest if you do purchase one, you do so on the basis you can get a refund if it fails to perform as you expected.

Has anyone else had these problems or have the units improved?

whats the difference in a DAB antenna?

The reason I ask is that the Pure DAB in my kitchen has an aeriel that is no different to a bog standard FM radio

I assumed DAB was similar to freeview in that you could use existing aeriel equipment

Methley - thanks - have you gone down this route - any tips/tricks/costs?

I think a call to TLO when he returns then! Unless anyone has one spare?

In the process currently of hooking the sharks fin telephone aerial to a conventional audio unit (non DAB) to see what I get. In theory it should work and hopefully better signal than the in glass aerial of the back window Whistle

Got DAB in the D4 and I do not think it is very good, get more crackling and interference than conventional radio. May be he local area but not impressed.

Must be your area - mine is faultless - lost signal on the move only a couple of times in a year

Think you might be wasting your time... The aerial in the fin is tuned for cell / gsm frequencies, ie 900 & 1800MHz, the tuning coils in the fin will also block frequencies outside this band. FM radio is 88-108MHz and requires a aerial ideally 0.8meteres long for optimum reception. This is not practical usually but the whips on a normal car or the wires in the glass can often approach this. The aerial in the fin is less than 100mm long, so even without the filtering would be far to short and inefficient. Same as running your home radio with the aerial down!
That's the theory, be interested to see how you get on.... Very Happy
Off Roading is OK.... But I'd rather be Boating!
