DASHCAM GPS
Hi all, Quick question ........I'm thinking about getting a dashcam (nextbase 312GW ) but have read somewhere that the heated screen stops the GPS function of the cam. So is it a waste of money going for the GPS models?
TIA
Mike

My old Nextbase dashcam gets a good GPS signal through the heated windscreen. I have mounted it up in front and slightly to the left of the rear view mirror.D1 300Tdi - gone

S'mae. Nextbase 512GW mounted just to left of interior mirror. No problems with GPS from the heated screen. Just had to use some clear silicone on the sucker to get the damn thing to stop falling off and causing alarm...1961 Series II 88" petrol - Bronze Green - gone

Same here - 512GW has no problem getting a GPS fix through the heated screen. Great piece of kit - go for it.

I think the Duo HD is great. Video is 1080p front and rear, and I get surprisingly good video from the rear camera, considering its looking past all the headrests! Good enough to be able to make out numberplates of following cars.
The NextBase editing software is ok, and easy to use. The software on the camera is a bit 'amateur' but works fine. My only issue is 'Parking Mode'. If you've set it up in parking mode, you can't turn it off again, because any attempt to touch the camera sets it off recording again in protected mode! The only way out is to pop the micro SD card out, then turn the camera on again. Consequently I don't use the parking mode very often.
In normal day to day recording, it's really good. Got mine hard wired in, and I like it Richard

Mounted just behind the rear view mirror I believe 😋 gives a much clearer signal for GPS as there is no heated section there and allows better transmission. Would certainly recommend hardwire kit as well.RLD CB Bracket

Hi all,
I'm thinking of (finally) putting a dash-cam in the truck and am considering the Nextbase 312GW. Would anyone who has one of these please take a snap of the gadget mounted in the windscreen and put it up here? Before buying I'd just like to see how much of the centre section of the windscreen it obscures/how far below the rear view mirror the bottom of the the unit sits when mounted.
Ideally, I think a dash mounted one wouldn't show at all due to the slope of the dashboard top as it slopes away to meet the bottom of the windscreen?
Any thoughts around which popular dash cam obscures the windscreen the least?
Ta muchly in advance.
N.
