Reading the other threads on this topic, yes, it is possible but there's no way I could do it myself and finding a garage prepared to take that on might be difficult. Second problem, as you say, is the mileage and there's no way I'll find a second-hand cluster with mileage higher than mine (253,000).

There are a few places which offer to repair the cluster, however, so I'll look into this next week.

Thanks for the reply - all suggestions are welcome.

you need a pack with lower mileage not higher - when you sync you can only increase it

Surely any good independent landrover garage worth it’s salt wouldn’t have a problem about using second hand parts. There are plenty of D3’s being broken for parts at this stage so availablity shouldn’t be an issue. Also new or second hand it’s going to need programming so if they can fit a new one then they should be able to fit a preowned one.

Thanks. I appreciate what you are saying but I only know two local independents here and they both tell me that a second-hand instrument pack can't be successfully re-coded to a different vehicle. They will fit a new one, or will fit a 'repaired' one at my own risk. And it is up to me to get the repair done!

I'm very late to the party here but I had intermittent cluster issues and you've probably stumbled on one of the many threads I've posted on while sorting mine.

Long story short: I sent it off for repair to www.clusterrepairsuk.co.uk. There was good and bad in my experience.

It cost just shy of £200 which was exactly what they quoted, but then it would be since the only type of repair they do on a Disco 3 cluster is a "full rebuild". The repair has been perfect. No faults in the 5 months I've had it back.

On the bad side, once I'd posted it off they went very quiet and weren't over keen on me phoning for updates. Their estimated time for turnaround was a bit on the ambitious side. 3 working days turned into 6 pretty rapidly.

There are some online reviews where their customer service has been less than good, but to be totally fair they were ok with me and people that have great customer experiences aren't the ones who post them online.

So you pay your money (on completion of a successful repair) and you take your chance. Hope it works out for you. Maybe it has already. Smile

Mr Onions. Thanks for that. I bought a new instrument cluster in the end from the JLR main dealer. Fitted earlier today at local independent (£50) and all seems well after about 100 miles or so.

Just have to decide now whether to get the belts and oil pump done, or reduce the price just to get her off the drive.
