Surely it's horses for courses?

I have to say though that I saw loads of defenders at LRO show last year going through the off road course, I was amazed at how many struggled with the axel twisting section compared to the few D3 that I saw glide across it without any problems.

I used to think that the defender was the ultimate off road vehicle but I am now thinking that in standard form the D3 is probably better. Don't kow if you guys agree?

I do like the fact that there are tons and tons of add-ons you can get for the defender though.

I've got a Fl2 and a D3, a Deafner doesn't do anything the D3 doesn't, they both do everything you want off road, tow anything you want and carry anything you want. The Fl2 is more fun to drive, will go where ever 90% of owners would want to go is more economical and more compact for going into town. The boot is small, but the cabin isn't, it is somewhat quieter than a Deafner and it doesn't leak.

As a single car it would be a tough choice, I prefer my D3 and drive the Fl2 rarely, but you can carry 2 D3 wheels in the boot or 5 whippets and it is an awful lot better than the old Fl.

Edit
Also removed, it was meant as light hearted banter, I use a defender on a regular basis and have an affection for them and their foibles.

It must be the Freelander Andrew, I have both as well, and it certainly doesn't sound like either my 90 or my D3! I suppose it could be a Series 2A? My 90 is a flyer and the D3, well, there is no equal!

Not being a Land Rover fan, I cannot see the point of the defender for everyday use. It's not comfy it's slow (in relative terms), cramped and the finish it like the hindenburg.

I think to like these you need to have been brought up with them?!?

Although the red pearl and CarlS' silver one do look the mutts nutts Thumbs Up

Not for me though. I'd give Fern Brittan one Thumbs Up

I had thought ever so briefly about buying a 110 as an offroader, then came to my senses and am keeping the D3 as an offroader and bought another d3 as the family transport. Sorted! Thumbs Up

But do you 'Off Road' your D3.

I think that a D3 V Defender road and 4x4 comparison is required. Any takers Question Oh I will be in a 110

Absolutely offroad the D3, would be rude not to, except Mrs DSL's D3 will be a road car only. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Choice of D3 for offroader was not based on purely offroad capability, cosseting my weary bones was high on the agenda! Whistle

We test drove a Defender first as SWMBO wanted one, but she couldn't face it for road driving, so we bought a D3. I would love a Defender myself, but as much as I would love it I also couldn't face driving long distances in one compared to the D3.

Best option would be to have one of each.

Never driven one off road so can't comment, but they both appear to be rated by various people off road.
