Wanted to buy a TDV8 FFRR but wife said no (less practical for hounds) and way above budget for 2nd LR in family. Sad

Both Thumbs Up

Bought the 110 as i can fix it myself and not as worried about nerfing it as the D3 plus the residuals are bomb proof in comparison.

Both excellent off road and the D3 was the vehicle that got me into it Thumbs Up

Running costs for running the 110 as an offroader are also considerably cheaper than the D3...and the D3 is Censored in sand and i want to go back to Tunisia or morocco and have a proper play in the dunes someday.

Brake pads £8.00
Disks £12.00
ujs £10.00
Service kit including all filters, lubricants etc £40.00 and do the service yourself Thumbs Up

Mine happily trucks along at 75mph and with a county spec with a noise killer kit, pretty comfortable...finally i think they look cool as well Thumbs Up

Finally im a "new " Landy man of a couple of years Thumbs Up

I can say, hand on heart, that a 90 truck cab is absolutely shyte on road. For the first time since Mrs Do$h and I met, I'm not looking forward to heading home tomorrow as 135 miles of motorway and A roads in that thing are pretty close to more than I can take.

At the beginning of the drive up on Monday I thought "Speed limiter? I'm not going anywhere near that!". 2 hours later it was " Censored speed limiter! Get the ferk outta my way, I need this journey to be over!!!". I can also confirm that the heater in the 07 'fender has a mind of its own, blowing hot or cold as the mood takes it without changing the heater dial. And it still cooks your left leg while freezing your right one.

Oh, and if some twunt in a 3-series pulls out on you on the M25, the car has adaptive braking. You brake hard at 70 and it changes lane without moving the steering wheel, filling the space the bimmer just vacated Whistle

Mind you, we bought the 90TC for a specific purpose, and it does the job admirably. Thumbs Up

I'm still really keen to get my hands on a 110 for a few days to see how I get on with it though Mr. Green
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

The 90 you have Al is probably the worst for passenger comfort and space!

It could be worse. The standard spec doesn't have anti-roll bars so has an even choppier ride than our County spec Laughing

Not necessarily the anti roll bars are there for corner handling. Take them off and you may be supprised Thumbs Up Oh if you do dont go round any corners Rolling with laughter

Now I will admit that I dont like the ride quality in a 90
In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Living in SW England, corners (with bumps and potholes in the middle of them) feature heavily. No AR bar makes it at best bloody uncomfortable and at worse close to suicidal in a 90 Laughing

Im no expert mate but all of us in D3s were stuck a lot in the sand..weight probably the biggest killer...the 110 that was with us seemed to fair a lot better with larger tyres....got everywhere it wanted to go where as we had to pick our lines carefully or get stuck.

Low profile tyres and sand don't mix because you can't air down enough. With the right tyres, the D3 is good on sand, but it does weigh a lot.....

Really in 2 minds,, Brain does say the 110 makes more sense 8)
But the G4 has a lot of plus points, better AC, more comfort and front cab space , Cruise for the trip down and up through Spain,, Auto, cause am a lazy git ! etc

In my personal experience of Defenders all kitted out, all pre 07 diesels
with power steering and air con STD, the normal short comings in in all
models excluded.

1) 90,3 door, pocket rocket in town, BUCKING BRONCO in rocky terrain, chicks
with big boobs hate it and the general ride sucks. TOO LIGHT.

2) 110,5 door, ride much better, high COG tends to lean over in corners
in town driving, more noticeable for the passengers in off roading Shocked
A good all rounder.

3) 130, 4 door, DC, with STD LDV rear bin, did not lean as much as the 110
in town driving, a very smooth ride on high way, much better ride off road
in all conditions to the others, just a little long. Which killed the turning circle
in tight off roading, bad break over angle, but a very good all rounder.

4) D3, the best of the lot IMHO, just too heavy.

Most efficient way of saving fuel. Hybrids, pah, who needs 'em, just disable the brakes. Whistle

My LR3 does fine in the sand. I suspect for such a long trip - even if you end up having to dig out once or twice - you'll be thanking yourself for bringing the D3. By the way, I've only ever gotten truly stuck (as in I needed a shovel and a tow) once.
