Defender to D3

My recent acquisition after 6 months tort....ownership of a defender Very Happy

2006 S manual with 154000miles.

Bit of a list of things to do Confused

Drop front diff and get it checked. I think it's one of the bearings

Investigate suspension rising at different speeds front to back

Investigate 'clear obstacle' message when trying to put into access height

Service rear brakes/park brake. I've already got bodsys bible from another member Smile had epb fault on dash twice, cycling ignition clears it

Needs trim cover for towing electrics

New wipers to fit

No reverse lights and one stop/tail out, hope it's just bulbs! Have done xyz reset

Proper clean of the interior when I get a dry day and a load of inclination

Polish headlights Rolling Eyes

Already done front wheel bearings and upper tailgate actuator. And gearbox breather.

So I'll be searching and probably asking lots on here! Hope I can help out soon when I've learnt enough Laughing

Sounds like it will keep you busy, d3 is a step up in comfort from a defender... I done the same last year

Well it's definitely kept me busy....front diff is now out for the 2nd time, it's had a new front prop, it'll be getting front driveshafts as well. It's also rotting along the nearside sill and in nsr wheel arch Shocked

suspension will raise and lower at different speeds, rear comes up first and down last, supposed to not blind people at night. It is a noticeable difference, as long as its not too long

Cheers Dave, maybe one less thing to stress about then.

I'd been getting a constant whubwhubwhub rotational noise and a rumble/grinding noise on left hand turns under load Also when towing up hill.

Had right hand carrier bearing changed in diff, the constant rotational noise went but still had the grinding on left turns.

So I jacked it up, took wheels off and used a stethoscope while it was running in gear, pinpointed a rumble on front left hand inner cv joint. Also, other 3 hubs were turning except front left. Pulled the driveshaft but can't see any obvious wear or damage. So pulled the right hand shaft, same, nothing obvious.

So I dropped the diff. Again.

Left hand carrier bearing is now noisy, also if I hold the extension tube in the vice and spin the driveshaft inside, i can hear the bearing in the tybe is rough woth my stethoscope.

Think I've found the cause then? Diff is back with specialist as of this morning so will update what they say
