How do I deliberately lock a key in the car?
The scenario is this:
My car is in France being repaired after a catastrophic wheel bearing 'malfunction'.*
I will be flying out to pick it up in a couple of weeks but the garage will be closed on my planned day - the French do not work on Saturdays.
I need the garage to move the car out of their secure car park and onto the street. I have a spare key so can unlock it but I'd like them to somehow leave my other key hidden inside as I am not sure I trust them to ship it back to me.
Is this possible and if so how? It's a 2005 HSE V8
*...never ever use pattern wheel bearings... a previous owners cheap and nasty repair has cost me a fortune
Or ask them if one of them can take it home for the weekend?.

Lock it fully
Open boot on remote
Put key in faraday pouch or similar and put in boot
Close boot
Would that work?

Good suggestions but I left them with a eBay special replacement key that only has two buttons.
The one with the boot unlock is here with me.
Also, why the Faraday pouch? D3s are not keyless.

Ask them to take key to mayor or police station with an explanation of your circumstances and send ahead to your garage your passport details so when you collect they know who to expect and validate copy details with your actual passport. Maybe I am missing something about French form filling but I would try this and see if its a possibility.D3 2.7 Zermatt silver (not another one)

I'm not near my car to test but try opening the door, pull the exterior handle, move the interior lock to the locked position, let go the handle and close the door?
This used to work on older cars but not sure on a D3

The boot suggestion would work(I did it to myself once, unintended )
But unfortunately will not work for you as no third button.
One solution could be: leave one window just open enough to slip the key in. Lock car slip the key inside to the floor.
Another one could be: disconnect/bridge the bonnet switch, open bonnet, lock car, tape key inside bonnet, close bonnet.

Open top tailgate
Lock car with keyfob
Hide key in boot
Shut tailgate
It will beep when you lock it to say a doors open but the doors will lock and the tailgate switch will turn off. As long as the tailgate is shut firmly car will be secure.
Just tried it on my 2005.

Open boot - then lock the car with remote (horn will ping) then place key in the boot and close it.

Boom! I think this is the answer!
... I also liked the key under the bonnet method.
Thanks lots for the replies all!
Also for the suggestions of secret hiding places, really good idea for the future but I think the garage will have to move the car and do this in broad day light so not this time.
Make sure your other key is charged up! Otherwise you're looking at using a "universal key" to get to the one in the car.
IIRC an electric toothbrush charging base will do the trick..
