A warning to all who have detachable tow bars on discos and range rovers and others I expect.
I have learnt the hard way that it only takes a smack with a hammer to remove lock. Locks can be obtained easily, item then sold on, nice little earner.
Last month whilst Caravanning in Kent I had mine pinched by some low life's. I don't have personal mobile Wi-Fi so a visit to the local L/R dealers was required.
This set me back £540 which I had to fork out to get our caravan home. They had stock by the way witch tells me that this happens quite frequently. In fact the young lady said that it happened to a Range Rover the week previously, they did the cowardly act whilst children were sat in the back.
Anyway the moral of the story is to take Tow bar off when not in use, not like me who left it on for the benefit of anyone who got to close.

Have a read of the many posts on here about
stolen towbars, and the advice to always take them off! You're not the first, and won't be the last. Richard

Plus the fact that I wouldn't trust a detachable as far as I could throw it. First thing I did was buy a witter fixed £179 now it wont come off while towing or get pinched Land Rovers don't leak they just mark there spot

Had my tow bar stolen whilst parked at Royal United Hospital Bath.
The vermin took the spare wheel as well. When I bought the vehicle (new) I was offered and purchased wheel and tyre insurance which does not cover theft. My gripe with LR is they were fully aware of the theft issue and did not mention or warn me there was an issue. All they said about the lock on the tow bar was it only deters honest theives.

Well known fact that the removable tow bracket is ‘removable’ It has a lock, but it’s just a basic deterrent. When not towing, make use of its ‘removable’ feature for complete peace of mind.
For spare wheel protection, there is only one answer, and it’s an RLD protector plate. It makes it virtually impossible to get the wheel off.
