Cayenne handled amazingly - like a Mini through corners and a Porsche in a straight line. But that was because the suspension was rock hard. After my woes with air suspension on the D3, I went for a Cayenne with springs. Fuel consumption was awful but it was relatively cheap in servicing and repairs, since it rarely needed much doing. Only issue was the coil pack needed replacing but that was done on warranty as it was a known issue. Would definitely have another. No longer a D3 owner but still subscribed to multiple threads!

Had the R line Touareg for the same reasons. Lasted a year as it got stuck three times on fields (ok had road tyres) and secondly I wanted to drive it like I stole it. Car of that size and weight should not be able to do 60 in 7 seconds. Also found the steering way too light.Last of the D4 HSE...

A 2008 58 reg Mondeo Titanium X for my 06 D3. Got 2 grandchildren so used it as an excuse to get a 7 seater and always wanted something from the LR group.
Did almost buy a FFRR a couple of years ago but never found just the right one at the time. Glad I waited tbh as the disco is so versatile and practical.2006 TdV6 HSE.

In 2012 I saw a 2008 D3 XS with only 27k miles on a Monday morning, I advertised my Nissan Pathfinder that afternoon, sold it the next day and bought the Disco, all sorted in 3 days!
...4 years driving 8) and ... bang ... engine give up whilst I was in the outside lane towing a 14’ trailer passing a car transporter! Scary few moments as I guided it onto the hard shoulder ... and had to borrow a Land Cruiser to complete the trip.
Replaced last year with a new Ford Ranger Wildtrak (for towing) and a 09 Merc E250 (for the daily commute) only really bought the Merc because my local dealer was practically giving it away with only 48k miles on the clock because they could not shift the smell left by the previous owner, a very heavy smoker.
Both together sort of replace the Discovery but after over a year I am ‘lurking’ back on the forum and despite the bad luck with the D3, the repair bills every 6 months etc. an early D4 (or RRS) is being considered ...but not likely to get near to the deal I got in 2012 on the D3 (under 4 years old with less than 30,000 miles for under £20k) also not likely to persuade SWMBO that she needs to upgrade her A4 to something with 3.5 tonne tow capacity and delivering 20 less mpg!
