Reason I ask is could this ever be the reason why cranks have snapped due to different sulphur ratings and oil change intervals
IMPORTANT - OIL CHANGE 2.7L DIESEL ENGINES
If the vehicle is operated on fuel with a high sulphur content (over 0.7) the oil change intervals must not exceed 6,000Km (3750 miles)
If the vehicle is operated on fuel with a moderate sulphur content (between 0.3 - 0.7) the oil change intervals must not exceed 12,000Km (7500 miles)
IMPORTANT - OIL CHANGE 3.0L DIESEL ENGINES
If the vehicle is operated on fuel with a high sulphur content (over 0.7) the oil change intervals must not exceed 6,500Km (4000 miles)
If the vehicle is operated on fuel with a moderate sulphur content (between 0.3 - 0.7) the oil change intervals must not exceed 13,000Km (8000 miles)
GLOSSARY:
MAIN SERVICE = The main service is applicable to all vehicles. It is carried out at 12 month or 15,000 mile intervals, whichever occurs first.
Main Service "A" is applicable at 12 months/15,000 miles, 36 months/45,000 miles, 60 months/75,000 miles 84 months/105,000 miles and so on.
Main Service "B" is applicable at 24 months/30,000 miles, 48 months/60,000 miles, 72 months/90,000 miles, 96 months/120,000 miles and so on. Some items do not need to be carried out at every main service and these items are identified by an indicator in the tick box e.g. 60k (This indicates that this item is only applicable every 60,000 miles)
NOTE: The service required should be at the time or distance stated, which ever occurs first.
This is what I found so far
European UnionEdit
In the European Union, the “Euro IV” standard has applied since 2005, which specifies a maximum of 50 ppm of sulfur in diesel fuel for most highway vehicles;[19] ultra-low-sulfur diesel with a maximum of 10 ppm of sulfur must “be available” from 2005 and was widely available as of 2008. In 2009, the Euro V fuel standard came into effect [20] which reduced maximum sulfur to 10 ppm. In 2009, diesel fuel for most non-highway applications is also expected to conform to the Euro V standard for fuel. Various exceptions exist for certain uses and applications, most of which are being phased out over a period of several years. In particular, the so-called EU accession countries (primarily in Eastern Europe), have been granted certain temporary exemptions to allow for transition.
Certain EU countries may apply higher standards or require faster transition.[21] For example, Germany implemented a tax incentive of per litre of "sulfur free" fuel (both gasoline and diesel) containing less than 10 ppm beginning in January 2003 and average sulfur content was estimated in 2006 to be 3-5 ppm. Similar measures have been enacted in most of the Nordic countries, Benelux, Ireland and the United Kingdom to encourage early adoption of the 50 ppm and 10 ppm fuel standards.[22]
Thks as always and hope I’ve not bored everyone too much, yeh i know the people in white coats will be collecting me soon

When i got my d4 here in china due to high sulphur oil change every 6 mths this was dealers requirement. So actually spent as much on services as I did on fuel.
Could mask any oil fuel dilution issues..
Sulphur content now reduced so change oil every year-ishIt is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.
