Different size spare

I’m currently on the look out for a full size spare as my 275 45 20 tyres now don’t match the spare.

In the mean time, if the worse happens, can I use the spare with a small discrepancy? Ie for short distances. I know all about gearbox and diff problems but would it get me off the motorway for instance.

in short - yes you can. A long time ago I had 265/50x20's on and had a puncuture - had to use my 255/55x19 to get home (OK only about 10 miles). Didnt seem to give me any problems as it was "close enough" to the size of my 20's

I've got 275 45 20 on mine with a 255 55 19 spare, the size difference is negligible in reality.

1%, or 6 revolutions per mile. Can't see why the diff wouldn't cope with that.

I've driven on a space saver, a 19" and two 18"s all at the same time before now ...as long as your are sensible it won't cause any issues Thumbs Up

I have the standard space saver. That would equate to the 255 50 that were fitted. Ok, that’s great. It will give me time to save up some cash. I’ll check the space saver size tho just in case it’s miles out. I’ll check on the tyre size calculator.

Many thanks guys.

So, if the 255/50/20 are replaced with 275/45/20, the spare space save on the originals would be 175/80/19 i believe. I need to check mine but assume its right.

So the space saver is the same as the 255.

In this case the difference is 1%.

I assume then that this will be ok to use as a spare as the diffs would not wind up on such a small discrepancy, I suppose in theory a slightly flat tyre could cause the same effect.
