Dipstick for a D4?
Has anyone ever made a dipstick utilising the oil suction tube on a D4 engine?
Is this even possible?
I don't trust the electronic oil level gauge. Today it showed the oil as just below normal. i added a litre and it did'nt move

Was the car level - side to side and back to front? I find the electronic sensor is very sensitive!LR Discovery 4 XS pulling an Airstream 532 Caravan also own (since new) a 1996 MGF

I would think that a litre would be far too much. Watch out for the overfilled warning as it will tell you not to drive the car.
I know this from experience.

As stated above, they are very sensitive.
For consistency, I measure mine every day in the same place (on my drive) when cold (I know the manual says warm and wait for 10 mins, but it ensures a daily consistent reading) so as long as the level is in the same place, I know (hope) all is well.
Don't understand why folk don't check it as regularly as possible

I heard recently of someone with an 18 month old FFRR that had gone bang, LR refused to repair under warranty as the oil had never been checked, does this sound like pub talk or is it possible for them to look at how many times the oils been checked as theres no dipstick?

Surely by 18months old it would have had at least one service - so at least one check (and oil change)
sounds more like pub talk, or LR refused claim as service schedule hadnt been adhered to.

A litre the last D4 I had was one square down from full, I added one mug full of oil to bring it up to the mark. I’m led to believe if it gets down a couple of squares it will advise you on how much to add.

You can always use your GAP tool to check the level.....full is 5.9 to 6 litres.
