Ebay sold prices paint a different picture, with the vast majority of D2's selling for under £3k, a couple below 4 and only one (a white V8 Japanese import with 46K on the clock) for over £5k.
Advertise them at what you like, but the buyer will decide what they sell for

If you use the same search criteria this one is quite nice...
Yeah, I saw that and all the other V8 ones on AT. It is nice, but not sure £5,995 nice! Plus, it's been bought back from Japan & I'm not sure if that means it could be even more prone to rust, when used on UK salty roads?
Still compared to a Defender, it's a bit of a bargain. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I would take an Japanese import any day over a similar aged UK one, you will find the Jap one will have non or very little rust, they don;t use salt over there so they tend to be in very good condition Cheers Ian

Yeah I know that, but did LR skimp on any underbody coatings on Jap exports? So it would need to be treated to cope with our salty roads. That's certainly the case in the past with some marques.

There was a comment on another thread that the something major (can't remember what) could be better in US (or whatever) than UK, I seriously question as to whether these are any different. Some bits are different obviously different for different markets but things like chassis and paint? I doubt LR production is that sophisticated.

I have been looking at the D2 with a view to getting something to play in and with but the advertised prices are silly. There are some TD5s at almost 10k.

Probably a lot of reliability, age, comforts etc vs cost to fix. I certainly wouldn't touch an early D3 now, if that was my budget I'd consider a D2, until I remembered they do like to rot their chassis.

That was before Dark Bluie's engine died.

True. It was after the event.
I still fancy a D2 and have been looking at some of the modded ones advertised.

I bought my D2 in 1999 and traded it in for Dark Bluie in 2006. Quite a few adventures were had and it was utterly, utterly reliable, would have it back in a heartbeat. As long as I could get cruise control fitted.

No i dont think any disco will ever be an appreciating asset as they are just so common, even early D2 shape arent really worth much, many were scrapped just for their engines.
I also think sill rot will be a major long term issue on all D3 and 4 models.

I would normally agree but 10k for 2004 D2!
I suppose it depends on if they sell at that price.
My guess is the defender prices are pushing some people (myself included) to look at the D2 as an option. I see them as a more robust and simpler choice to the D3.An honorable defeat is better than a dishonorable victory.” ― Millard Fillmore
