I was very pleased to see that the Disco 3 fared very well in a braking test featured in this weeks Auto Express. In a test involving 30 vehicles of various categories the Discovery 3 came in a respectable 13th place. It had the most efficient braking performance of all the 4X4's including the new Mercedes M class (14th) and the Volvo XC90 (19th - not so impressive considering Volvos comittment & emphasis on safety !!!).
The test involved braking from 85 mph to zero, the Discovery recording a stopping distance of 70.9 metres. Auto Express praised the Discovery 3's braking performance stating that it was testament to Land Rover's engineering considering the vehicle's 2.5 tonnes weight. Unsurprisingly, the new Porsche 997 had the best braking performance with a stopping distance of about 62 metres.

Apparently according to Autocar the D3 they tested (some time ago now) stopped ever so slightly shorter than the Carerra GT in a 60-0 test.
Surprised the hell out of them.
Only what I read so don't flame me with "yeah right it has ceramic brakes does the Porsche"
Was featured in their news section as a follow note from a previous article or answer to a question in the letters page over the braking distances of large 4 x 4's
