So my MY14 LR4.5 is in at the dealers in a couple of weeks time for them to have a look at this problem. They are going to:
1. Recalibrate the flap mechanisms (stepper motors) in the HVAC system via the onboard OBD.
2. Remove the dash front panel to gain access to the cabin temperature sensor located behind the grille to the left of the steering wheel. They believe the tube connecting the grille to the sensor may be kinked and if it is they will shorten and re-rout it.
3. Check vehicle records to see if the tech bulletin LTB00963 has been initiated on my vehicle. If it hasn’t, they will complete it.
In anticipation of this work I connected up my IID Tool and checked the live values of the HVAC system and was surprised at the results of the windshield interior air temp (205 degrees c) and the windshield interior surface temp (148 degrees c)!!!!
Has anyone else with this heating problem had the windshield sensors checked? What should the live values range be - any ideas?

Little bump. Finally had enough of hot feet and cold top. My mid vents also never blow out heat when on Auto.
Going to book into the dealer and refer them to the Bulletin.

Mines just been back in, all tests done, said that is how all the d4's work, even LR relations were in contact with me and the dealers, nothing from them either.
Keep us informed if they work it out.L633 Defender

It sounds like one of these things that LR will hopefully just kick into the long grass until the JLR warranties are finished and they can say it's not our problem any more. Like the surround cams quality.
Is it so fn difficult to provide a heating system that works, its not rocket science. I'll have the chance to buy a 66 plate Landmark at family rates in a couple of years but won't touch it if this hasn't been resolved. If that happens I'll be jumping ship.
Beware if LRCS use the phrase "works to design intent", it means " fk off and stop annoying us, we're not going to fix your car so the heating will actually work".

It looks like they would have to write a new program to fix the issue and are not interested now no longer made.
Only hope that GAP get hold of it and can sort it for us.L633 Defender

So, mine was in the dealers last week and they checked everything as recommended:
Recalibrated the flap mechanisms (stepper motors) in the HVAC system via the onboard OBD.
Removed the dash front panel to gain access to the cabin temperature sensor located behind the grille to the left of the steering wheel. Straightened the tube connecting the grille to the sensor thus removing the kink.
Carried out tech bulletin LTB00963
And the results were.......
Still freezing cold air out the dash vents PLUS a stiff volume control on the stereo and a knackered vent control on the dash vent. So next week it’s going back in to the dealers so they can fix the problems that weren’t even there before they got their hands on it!! They can’t do anything else about the heating!
What crap- can’t quite believe LR are so dismissive of this fault, shan’t buy another.

Having read through this thread as I am having the exact same issues, but mine is MY12? Is there a separate know issue for MY12's? Or I am just lucky in that I have a MY15/16 'feature' on my MY12?

Hi folks
the cold is back and so is the fun of trying to keep warm in the D4
There was some talk about it being the temperature sensor at fault and a dealer fix of insulation around the sensor, my dealer did the insulation around the sensor two years ago and it made no difference
just wondered if anyone got a fix apart from using "manual" setting to set fan speed and air distribution?
*On a serious note* I will have to test out my MY16 D4 for this issue. I haven't noticed anything as of yet. I will pay more attention in the coming colder months.2016 D4 HSE Lux
Mercedes E-class EstateLRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

I’ve notice that when I’m in manual mode the faster I go the cooler the cabin temp gets.
I think that may also happen in auto, but going to check next time.
It’s almost like wind chill is affecting the temp. You’d think it would compensate and do more to keep the temp stable.Gary

Well guys, not being able to bear another winter and with my warranty running out in September, I have chopped mine in and got a Q7..........cabin temperature is perfect !
It's a real shame because i loved the Discovery otherwise.......JLR should be ashamed, the whole experience had me resenting a car that I had aspired to own for a long time.
I will never own a JLR vehicle again and on a positive note, I don't have to worry about the crankshaft failures !!
Good luck with sorting your issues..........
Cheers - Paul

Picked our 16-plate Graphite up a month ago. Have only used it a few times and on first long journey both me and OH thought that the car seemed cool - at the time put it down to fact we were both soaking wet after packing up caravan and awning.
With the recent cold weather though, we've had to have the temp up at 26 or higher to get any warmth at all. On our old 2010 it was fine at 22 and soon needed turning down to 19.
Our VIN is in the range affected by the sensor/foam issue. However on long run this morning even manual setting of temp (no AC, no Auto) didn't get it really warm.
Have contacted dealer to see what they have to say
