After much deliberation, including the pro's and cons of an older Range Rover Vogue v's a newer low mileage Discovery 4 XS, head is ruling over heart and the Disco is winning through. The XS seems to have pretty much everything we want and need, but I really like armrests on the seats of the HSE (I had them in my last RR Sport).
They don't come as standard on the XS - does anyone know if they can be retro fitted i.e. do the seats have the "lugs/housing" for them to be fitted??
Also, any tips on things to look out for?? Am I better off with a newer but higher mileage v's slighlty older with lower mileage??
I am looking to spend circa £34k, and have in mind to go to the main dealer, so that I have the piece of mind of a manufacturers warranty.
Thanks

Same, I'd go for the longest warranty possible irrespective of mileage. In fact, I'm convinced that, when maintained properly, these vehicles actually work better the more they are used!

Would have thought it would get you into a 10 plate XS, with <25k miles or a 11 plate with 'high miles' I.e 40k++
Private - should/could get you into a 11 plate (perhaps an even 8 speed) again circa <25k miles, with at least 12 months manufactures warranty left.
???????????????????

What is the answer with regards the seats and the arm rests ???
I emailed a breaker who had a disco 4 HSE in about the seats and he said they went within an hour of posting his ad, and they always do ?????

I bought my 10 reg XS last month from a dealer for £33k and it had just over 26k miles. One year full warranty with LR assist.
The armrest thing is the only real disappointment for me, this and the over-optimistic mpg readout (but I don't think I'm allowed to complain about that). Otherwise it's a brilliant vehicle and highly recommended.

Hi all, new to the forum, been browsing for few weeks and feel qualified to answer the original poster here as I've just spent exactly that on a 60 plate late 2010 XS. Picked it up yesterday and have had a big on my face ever since. Its has the SDV6 engine. Mine has front armrests, the dealer mentioned they'd fitted them, look as if they came from the factory to me. It's done 23000 miles, 1 owner and in excellent condition. Bought from a main dealer, there is a national used car incentive this weekend so managed to get an extra year warranty, so 2 total, and 2 year free servicing .

Thanks for all the feedback. I missed out today on a silver XS 2011 (11 plate) done 29k at just under £34k - it sold while I was on my way to the dealers.
There seems to be some conflicting info re the "retro" armrests.
I have spotted another '11 plate car in my other favourite colour (Stornaway) - I'd very much like to take advantage of the extended warranty and free servicing on offer at dealers untill 22nd.
Thanks again.

I've got a Freelander 2 HSE with armrests and a D4 XS without.
I was worried that I'd miss the armrests in the D4, but to be honest, I don't. The centre console makes up for it.
I'd go for it, after a week, you won't even notice the armrests aren't there!

the arm rests on the XS are a factory option that included electric seats but not memory seats. So yes, they can be retrofitted but you would need a complete new seat back from what I understand. Duncan
