Disco 5 security beats 180 other models

https://www.motor-talk.de/news/adac-testet...04972.html

Translated from German wrote:
Munich - Cars with keyless remote control keys are still more susceptible to theft than cars with normal wireless keys, reports the ADAC. The club has now tested over 180 models. With the Land Rover Discovery of 2018, only one has passed the test for the first time.

In the experiments, the technicians use a self-built radio extension, as they can assemble potential thieves "with little effort" from normal electronic parts, the club. This extends the wireless connection between key and car up to one kilometer. And that regardless of whether the original key is in the house of the owner or in his jacket pocket.

Thieves can quickly open the car and drive away, because immobilizer and mostly the alarm system are bypassed. With keyless remote control keys, the driver no longer has to press any buttons to unlock the car, for example.

Motorists can only deactivate the system on a few models at a later date. That is not in the sense of the inventor, says an ADAC spokesman. Because you pay no extra charge for a system, then turn it off.

The club advises vigilance in storage: the remote control keys should not keep motorists in the building near windows and exterior doors. The ADAC sees manufacturers as having a duty to provide safety and to provide drivers with retrofits.

More German translation wrote:
Jaguar Land Rover is now taking the problem seriously as the first manufacturer. The British are now installing special computer chips to prevent the car-claw. You can measure the duration of the radio signal between car and key very accurately and determine the distance. If this is too large, so the signal is extended, the system stops responding.

An ADAC-tested Land Rover Discovery of the 2018 model year was already equipped with the technology and could not be illegally opened or driven away with a self-built radio extender. In addition to the Discovery is according to the manufacturer's information in the models Range Rover, Range Rover Sport (each model year 2018) and Jaguar E-Pace the same keyless technology installed. These vehicles should therefore also be better protected.

Jaguar Land Rover has proven: It is possible to make car thieves life more difficult. Now all other manufacturers are asked to make their vehicles safer as well. Because they are still child's play driving from the farm.

Seems that way Simon, though I now face the prospect of them having to physically get to the key, I'd much rather them zap it from outside the property tbh.

Well I would obviously prefer that they didn't by any means ...but what options would the determined gang be left with? I guess that for a while they will focus on the motors they can take with the fewest barriers ....won't be long though before the have worked out how to overcome this latest tech no doubt.
