My disco and the new tintent

Hi all,

I received my tintent a week ago and thought I would post a picture in my gallery and also some findings.

I averaged using the little display 25.1mpg, I normally get about 28.5 on my usual drive. I have owned previously an automatic and found it great even though I felt I was being lazy so this disco is a manual and the drive with the tintent was great, no issues pulling it, no problems going past lorries and overtaking on the motorway was simple.

So the only thing I need to do now is work out how to reverse as pushing the thing onto the pitch is hard work...

By the way would have posted a picture here but gave up working out how to do it.

Felipe

looks very nice, you didnt by any chance go through the dartford crossing sat 30th @ around 9.30 am followed by another shogun. I saw an 05 tonga, with bikes and windsurf boards on the roof, thought it looked pretty impressive, regards, Chris.

Welcome to another member of the TinTent club. Nice looking outfit you have there.

Do you have Tyron Safety bands fitted to the wheels? If not, I urge you to get some fitted. Why Question

Coming home from Cornwall on Friday after a week away with our tintent, saw a caravan ahead of us on the M5 just south of Brum suffer a total blowout with other drivers swerving to avoid the bits of tyre flying off the van. The driver slowed down and pulled over onto the hard shoulder with no fuss and no dramatic snaking. As we went past, I could see he had no tyre left on the offside wheel of the van and could see that there was something fitted to the wheel - a Tyron band.

My son saw the same thing happen to a van on the A1(M). This one was being towed by a large 4x4 and when the tyre blew, the wheel dug into the road causing the caravan to snake so much that it very quickly pulled the 4x4 completely around to face the wrong way up the motorway.

I'm not trying to be a killjoy or anything but I've seen too many caravans on their sides in ditches or in pieces all over the road and often as not, they are like that because of a blowout. Tyron bands won't stop a blowout but they should prevent any dramatic consequences. As an added bonus, most insurance companies also give you a discount if you have them fitted.

for reversing nothing beats practice, go find a big open space and just keep on having a go at it, once you get your head round how it works it's actually real easy and a lot of fun

I had them on my SA but not on the TA we have now. We were advised not to on the TA but I can't remember why, you also have the issue if you get a puncture you need a specialist tool that most tyre places don't have to be able to get the tyre off. This is a big issue abroad apparently.

An industrial estate on a Sunday is a good place to master reversing or do a Caravan Club course. If you think pushing yours is difficult try man handling a TA, you soon learn to master reversing Laughing

Must admit, I don't have Tyrons on my TA either, the reason being that the chances of a double blow out are pretty slim and if one tyre did blow, there are 3 others supporting the van so the consequences of a blow out shouldn't be as severe on a TA as on a SA.

Like Pelyma says, when you have a TA, you soon learn to reverse the thing as pushing it is next to impossible. Mind you, ours also has a mover fitted as there are times when the combination of D3 and 8 metre van are just too long to manoeuvre in tight situations.
