It was a conversation that I had with the driver and a passenger of one of these "Higways England" Land Rover drivers that made my mind up that the D4 was the car for me!

Anything that can put up with this and still drive between 250,000 and 330,000 miles, over a 3 year lease, must have something about it Thumbs Up

The Highways Agency (Highways England now) staff that I spoke to said that they were often called on to move these sorts of lorries to clear the road before the full on recovery trucks arrive. If ever you wonder why they have such decent cars, this is the sort of reason why.

Incidentally, the Shoguns that they use are held in very low regard in comparison (too fragile, unreliable and the spares back up is slow). Yes, really!

I wonder what they'll run in future? An aluminium structure, unibody, car wouldn't be my first choice for this sort of work.

Agree with RM's comments - D4 - last of the chassis LR's?

Impressive stuff. Thumbs Up

The odd thing in that video is the two cars in lane 3 on the other carriageway. Nothing in lane 2. Wonder why they felt the need to be over in 3. Odd.

I once did that with a series11 about 17 years ago, up a much steeper slope than that and I got him to the top Shocked

The blue retroreflective in the livery suggests it is a Police D4 rather than HA.

Fair enough Thumbs Up

It does go to show that the 3 1/2 tonne towing limit has a little bit of headroom!

The 3.5T towing limit is about braking more than about pulling! The coppers are only helping the lorry get going, they'll be relying on the lorry's brakes to slow him back down when they want to stop!!
