The Discovery electronic trickery is always going to trump the skill needed to do the same thing in a Defender for most people... but there's nothing quite like the feeling of doing all the hard work yourself
plus it's very very difficult to get a speeding ticket in a Defender

It is, the copper that pulled me in my 19j turbo 110 CSW, told me I didnt believe they could do that, after I had just passed a line of 8 vehicles behind Granny Jones and Granny, he let me off with a warning plus I was now behind Granny and co again. ==================================

Think I would say most people on here have more than two vehicles..
For me personally, I have Lexus as my every-day-car and a D3 as my expedition, laning, camping, outboard motors in the boot, vehicle.
My next purchase is probably going to be a 300tdi D1.
If I was a farmer, lived in Scotland, had two big dogs or wore women's underwear, I'd probably get a deafener... D3 07 SE - still going strong

Whilst my D3 is waiting to be diagnosed as to what's wrong with it, I'm using a defender 90, a friend has kindly lent it to me. You cannot compare, the defender is like going back to basics, but there is just something about it, I just love it.
Defender scored 3 for on road... That put the whole scoring values into question!____

A Disco can do everything a defender can do, but a defender cant do everything a disco can do.
But I still love the Defender. If I had the space and money, I would have both, but I expect I would choose to drive the Disco most of the time!

Of course and it's horses for courses and all about how you use your vehicle.
I use mine, amongst other things, for long expeditions across Europe. So I would guess that on one of those trips I am off tarmac less than 5% of the entire trip with the rest of the trip being on tarmac, probably highways and probably in 100 mile chunks. So the disco is perfect for this and a deafener would make me want to kill my passengers. I spent enough time in the military cutting around the place in a variety of deafeners in various guises to not even look closely at them. But in the event, the disco has enough capability off road that should I need it, it's there.
To steal from Jeremy Clarkson:
"My watch is rated to a depth of 100m. I'm never going to take it to 100m but it's reassuring if I accidentally drop it in the sink when doing the washing up"
I wonder at the motivation behind the article?D3 07 SE - still going strong
D3 07 HSE - gone to car heaven
FL1 - gone to Romania
D3 05 HSE - gone to a divorce diet

Motivation behind the article ? I’m guessing to fill up pages... I think that the Disco is the best car Landrover make and the defender design was patented just before the design for Stonehenge, any comparison is more for entertainment. Mines a 2010 and I seem to think that there are still a few body parts from the S1
The best part of defender ownership is that you get to wear a leather cowboy hat, hi vis and combat trousers.........,The devil will find work for idle hands to do
