I'm in Trump-land and picked up my 06 V8 with FLRSH 3 years ago with 75k on the clock now has about 100k. I use about 1L of oil between changes and I change every 12k. The car is great. I've had don't know how many D3s and D4s (all diesel) in the UK and whilst the D4 HSE was the most comfortable, for some reason the one I love the most is my 4.4 V8.
Anyway, there are hundreds of V8s kicking around here with really high mileage. If you look after the V8 it'll just keep on going. (Thirsty cow, though, made worse by the fact she wants high test petrol).
Mine doesn’t use any noticeable amount of oil between changes.
I got quite the shock yesterday when it refused to start. Turned to key to position 3, clearly tried to ignite, then bongs came on and a metric ton of messages on IPC LCD and warning lights turned on.
Pulled out the IID, voltage quite low (8-9 V). Didn’t have a battery pack so went with the other car to purchase a Bahco one “as it might be useful in the future” (the explanation I provided SWMBO with) - has 12 V and USB output, too.
Well, the battery pack made it start and I drove around with it yesterday with the IID on and graphing battery voltage and engine RPMs. This in case the voltage would vary with RPMs indicating alternator at fault. All was fine... or so I thought.
Today the same thing in the morning. Took it to the shop and they fitted a new battery. Diagnosis was that the old (2 year old.....) one was broken.
All is well again.

Mine doesn't use oil between servicing to the extent I haven't checked it since I changed it 4500miles ago.
The old V8 put a smile on my face tonight. A bit of an Italian tune up. The old girl does get a shift on once the revs rise. So smooth

Well mine threw up a low coolant warning at the weekend. Level low and as I had the heater on for 3.5hrs on the way up to Wales (enough to melt the chocolate), I thought I may have an air lock.
Opened both bleed screws and level is back up to the cold fill mark (some coolant stuck at the top of the expansion tank). Oddly engine bleed screw was finger tight (coolant was changed 3years ago when I bought the car).
Will change the expansion bottle as I've just worked out its the old style and keep an eye on it. No leaks visible

My LR3 SE (2005 105k miles) just threw a suspension fault at me. IIDtool says something about gallery pressure. I cleared the faults and everything was fine. Checked live value and it‘s sitting around 1400kpa.
Since I‘m still running on my first hitachi compressor, could it be a sign of it going out?
FYI I need to lower to bump stop to exit/enter my garage twice a day. Is that bad on the long run?

New D3 V8 Owner
Hi Guys,
Just purchased from another member his 2005 D3 V8 (LPG). First time I've owned a Disco of any flavour, though my mates have had the full compliment over time.
147k on the clock, to the uninitiated (i.e. me!) it runs fine, sounds great. Will sort some photo's though its been on here already (E2 ECE was the plate then).
Clearly there is every bit of possible info needed on this forum, but as a starter for 10... Would like the gearbox flushed, having been told tis a good idea. Anyone know of the best place closest to Newbury?

I had my ATF megaflushed and differentials & transfer box oil changed at 193k km (~ 120k miles) roughly 2 1/3 years ago and ~45 k km later no issues. Of course, I didn’t have any issues to begin with but the fluids were certainly original from factory.

Always lower and raise mine when I use the vehicle due to the dogs. No issue so far.

My fluid was burned, I also had a worn stator bush which was leaking pressure. It all good after a rebuild now, next fluid change im going to do at 180k, if the car gets there!05 V8 HSE Bonatti Grey

Seems to be fine. I used to run Jaguar XKR's of a similar ish vintage to this, had the 4 litre and then the 4.2. Sealed for life gearboxes, but had issue on the first, fluid was "dead". Had it done on the 2nd as preventative.
Both cars were sub 100k, but fluid change cheaper than new / recon gearbox.Never trust a skinny chef

I think lowering to access height is not so demanding. Mine returns from access to normal pretty fast but struggles to recover from bump stop. The air tank doesn’t seem to be sized for this duty.

I bought this 2005 V8 Petrol last week. 1 owner, 55k miles and FLRSH.
It will be used primarily for camping trips next year with a couple of longer overland trips in the future.
Over the winter I will add a James Baroud roof tent, a cargo barrier, boot organisation, AT tires, dual battery system and a refrigerator as a minimum. Pending decisions are smaller 18" wheels (steel or alloy and only if they fit over the V8 brakes). If I can find them at the right price I'll add a RAI, nudge bar, rear steps and spots but no rush.
It will get an additional service before it's first long trip in the spring (bringing it from the UK to Norway for the Summer). A 'regular' service but was thinking of a gear box flush and a diff fluid change as extra, I'll be picking brains and open to hearing from experienced owners.....
