Parents’ 16MY from Cardiff to Ludlow for some warranty work, unfortunately very difficult times as my twin brother had just been hospitalised two weeks before he died. Gave me a bit of head space and a distraction from what was happening back in Newport General.
Though just looked at GoogMaps and it was nearer 190 miles with the return via an old friend. Makes me fully qualified.

Re 8 vs 6: Difficult one. The D4 I have I bought from my folks has a 6 speed box so it was comfortable and familiar, just 28k miles not 150k cf my D3 so virtually new. I did think the 8 speed was nice and slick, with no hanging on to gears or hunting for gears, on my limited drive. It’s obviously a very nice marriage, the same box as in my now/then gone BMW 520d. I did think at the time this would be a nice car to have when my folks replace it. Is the 6 speed box so bad? No, not in my experience and certainly not to the point of going down to pauper level spec.

My D3 box was well shagged up until 162k when it was rebuilt. It’s a gradual thing so you don’t notice it, but compared with my D4 box and after reconditioning it was truely awful. The D4 box was as I remember the D3 box was when she was new, smooth slick and really responsive. Certainly there wasn’t much between the D3 reconditioned box and the D4’s box, well for the few weeks before the D3’s engine died 3 weeks and 4,000 miles later.

Tried Waze in Sweden and Finland a few weeks ago, didn’t get on with it so switched back to GoogMaps.

Well had new recon put in my d3 and is back there now as still not happy with it as when booting it is fine smooth but driving normally around town and it still harsh changing down sometimes with a jult garage is getting zf out to test it now as they say nothing wrong and been going on for months one of the reasons I’m getting rid of the car had enough of itDisco 3 gone but not forGotten
