Yep, time to get rid. That was the mistake I made. I assumed the old girl would live for ever, sadly the engine had other ideas.

I considered a GS or SE 2014 spec and then adding all the bits but decided I couldn't be bothered with the hassle and bought an XS instead.
Really got everything I need except a reversing camera.

The reversing camera on the D4 was really nifty. It’s one thing I have sometimes missed on the D3.
Although I’ve been reversing with the D3 and it’s delayed sensors soon almost a year without any incidents

I’ve driven the 6 speed in a D4 for 27k miles, an 8 speeder for about 120 miles so obviously I’m in a good position to judge.
But I’d miss all those extras, heated everything, decent seats, and whatever else I can’t think of. Apart from the satnav, that truely is dire and no different from my 06MY D3 HSE. Truely rubbish.
My 6 speed is nothing like that. I also like the 6 speed as it holds the 6gear on the motorway and doesn’t drop a gear everything you touch the accelerator. I’m not sure if all 8 speed do that, but the ones I’ve driven do and it’s annoying!
Worth getting the 6 speed flushed if you can l. Geoff. Did mine at about 65k ish (can’t remember exactly) and it’s been great since although it didn’t have a problem before. Now at 92K

Toys and 6 speed would be my choice.
Had both and IMHO the 8 speed is good but over rated.
I find it quite harsh for town driving compared to the 6 speed, especially on roundabouts when trying to pull away, the 6 speed seemed to pull away nice and smooth, where as the 8 speed just seems too lively coupled with the bigger engine.
If cracking on is your thing then the 8 speed is the best choice, but for me a relaxed drive seemed easier to achieve in the 6 speed.Discovery 4 HSE

Service history I love the idea
Of 8 speed but also love toys put both together and there silly money
I'm afraid I did the silly money thing in the end, My reasoning being that the older HSE's seem to have held their money better so getting it back at the other end is possible. (probably not true but I let it convince me)
The 8 Speed box I have is a bit harsh on take up at times but I've yet to do a fluid change so can't be to sure about it just yet. Manual override is good and the extra power is always good. I'm getting 37mpg at 70. and have averaged 30-35 per tank so far.
So far - so good.

This .
I much prefer the way 6 speed drives.
Too many gear changes for no reason on the 8. Just my opinion of course.

For some reason, I quoted The wrong post initially from DSL. My response doesn’t make much sense, it was meant to be the response which says the 6 speed was harsh from James1974 D3 recon, which doesn’t sound right at all ...

Says it has
But that’s the first
Thing I would always do regardless or what it says in a service book for what it cost to do it’s not worth taking a chance
even when I brought my vivaro van with 100k on it first thing I done was change the timing CHAIN as I had one break at 115k on my last van after everyone saying it’s a chain they never need changingDisco 3 gone but not forGotten
