Discovery 4 - parking brake shoe replacement - epb modes

Apologies if this is covered somewhere else - but i cant find anything searching the forum

How do you put the epb into maintenance mode on the Discovery 4 if you dont have any electronic gadgets? I read Bodsys excellent guide - but it only shows the method using the key.

Can i just start the car, release the parking brake then pull a fuse?

Similarly - how do you get it to do the bedding/calibration cycle once the shoes are replaced?

Thanks for any help with this.

Try introducing yourself and filling in your profile, it helps.
I've never done EPB so can't help you.

I recently changed the EPB shoes, pads and discs on my D4 and like you I do not have an IID tool. I just released the handbrake, removed the fuse and fully wound back the adjuster. I did have some difficulty removing the disc on one side as the lever on one of the shoes was seized solid.

When it was all re-assembled I adjusted the brakes (I think you need to back off 8 clicks) operated the handbrake several times re-checked the adjuster.

This may not have been the book way of doing it but as the brake was not put into service mode I could see no reason for it not to work properly. I did try applying the brake at about 20mph and it stopped perfectly and has been fine for the last 3 months.

I hope this helps.

P.S. Bodseys brake bible is a must read if you have not done so already. Thumbs Up

Apologies - long time user - but I've forgotten my password and waiting for the original account to be reset.

(didn't change the contact email address when freeserve stopped......)

Fireburst - thanks for the reply - will go check out which fuse it is. Access to the D4 fuses is a nightmare.
